March 7, 2010Nike Continues to Cash in on LeBron James’ Pending Free Agency

More World-Wide: “Sports Illustrated had an interesting report Friday that had plenty of NBA and college basketball insiders scratching their heads and sending e-mails and texts around. SI.com’s Seth Davis reported that a confidant of LeBron James and a well-known behind-the-scenes operator in player recruitment and management circles, William “Wes” Wesley, is in talks to become an agent. Davis reported said Wesley is close to joining the massive Creative Artists Agency, which represents top actors and athletes, to represent NBA and college coaches.” [Brian Windhorst]

Inching closer to March Madness: “The Great Big Ten Three Way (with extra cheese) became a reality after the Boilermakers and Spartans won their season finales over the weekend, thus sending co-championships to East Lansing and West Lafayette to go with the one earned in Columbus last week. Purdue took care of business dispatching a surging Penn Statewhile Michigan State collected a share of the title by pummeling the Wolverines — a fitting end to an underachieving season in Ann Arbor. Though the three battled to a share of the regular season championship, the one seed has lived in Columbus since the victory over the Illini. With the bracket out, that honor means the Buckeyes will play their first game on Friday at noon (ESPN) against the Michigan (8) – Iowa (9) winner.” [Jason/Eleven Warriors]

“So far, I see this year’s free agency as being quite similar to last year’s free agency period. We’re signing veteran players who aren’t superstars but can hold their own at their position. The only difference is that since Mangini drained the pool of Jets last year, we’re actually looking around at other teams’ rosters. Fujita is expected to make the move from outside linebacker in the Saints’ 4-3 defense to inside linebacker in the Browns’ 3-4 defense. Fujita will help to strengthen the Browns’ run defense, which has been pretty bad since the return to the league in 1999.” [Dawgs by Nature]

Cavs forward/center JJ Hickson finally gets his own t-shirt, mostly due to Delonte West [’64 and Counting]

And finally, thoughts on Brandon Jennings: “Now, for me, if you’re gonna try to show the Cavs up with a dose of their own shimmy’s and shenanigans, you should probably do it when LeBron James isn’t in street clothes. That said, even without LBJ active, there’s no way this could have gone over well in the Cavaliers locker room. Especially not if you’re Mo Williams.” [Stepien Rules]

Jennings is good, man. I’ve been pretty impressed by he and Evans all season. I didn’t think either would be playing as well as they have been.
If you handle your business against scrub squads like the Bucks, then they won’t dance on you. LeBron or no, that’s not a team the Cavs should be losing to. Not a matter of me following the PANIC flow chart, just the truth. I hope it does light a fire under the collective behinds of the non-LBJ members of the team.
Each Big Ten team plays only 18 conference games. I’d like to hear a good explanation — emphasis on “good” — why every team can’t play every other team in the conference. They can’t squeeze in two more conference games? They can’t go on a little non-cupcake diet?
ADD: “…team in the conference TWICE.”
That shimmy he does makes the women in Cleveland sick.
CAA’s client list (to name a few) Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Will Smith , Julia Roberts, Will Ferrell, Tom Hanks….David Beckham, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Derek Jeter, LeBron James…
That’s good company, perhaps Wes could be making the move to help LeBron in other ventures, such as television, isn’t LeBron working on a pilot with “Ice Cube?” for a sit-com?
Then again rumors have surfaced that LeBron is heading to L.A. this could be a major Hollywood move for him.
After this year he’s a free man! NYC and LA are very attractive options.
I could care less about the goosey thing he can do what he wants when he torches mo the way he did.
“After this year he’s a free man!”\
Really? Man, someone should really consider covering this.
Jennings won. Mo lost. Let him shimmy, we do plenty of it ourselves. Side note: LeBron should sit tonight just to see if Mo steps up.
@9: Truth. We all sound like Noah if we whine when someone else dances on us.
I hear Wes is looking to pick up Troy Smith as his second client.
As for Jennings, it irked me during the game to watch him throw our gang sign back in our face, but as has been said, if we (meaning the Cavs) don’t like it, do something about it on the court. I still think it’s just rookie classlessness (that’s a lotta s’s) to do it while the gamechanger is in street clothes, but we’ll have the last laugh while he’s watching the 2nd round of the playoffs from his couch.
ZOMG CAA GOTS SO MANY STARSSSSSS
I don’t have a problem with Jennings doing the goosey. The only shady bit is when our players do it, they do it at eachother, not at the other team. So it’s not really a taunt as much as Jennings blatantly was. But again, if Mo wanted to shut him up, either foul is @ss hard, or make a damn shot.
@Chris, man I hate to recognize a Major League II quote but that was well played.
Don’t like the Jennings throwing up the goosey? Show up on March 31st and show him how it’s done.
