Indians Now Trying to ‘Recycle Fans’

The Indians announced today that Saturday’s Green Awareness Day game will include more than just a recycled hat giveaway. The hats are made of old plastic bottles (sounds comfy) and will go to all fans with a full game ticket. I say full game ticket for a reason.

The Tribe is trying to capitalize on game 1 of Cleveland’s playoff series with the Bulls. That game starts at 3:00ish, while the Indians are set for a 4:10 first pitch. Ticket holders for game one of the playoffs will be allowed to purchase special $5 tickets to see the remainder of the Indians game after the Cavs game has finished. Take your playoff ticket to Gate A and get your partial game Indians ticket for the bleachers or upper deck seat. They will also be selling a hot dog/beer $8 combo after the Cavs game is finished, provided it ends before last call I’m sure.

I suppose you can’t blame the Indians for trying to take advantage of the crowd that is already there. I do wonder if a $5 ticket is worth it if the game is in say the bottom of the 7th inning and it is seemingly out of reach. The Tribe does play the White Sox, so you can bring your Beat Chicago signs into ballpark as well. Release the Shaqken signs may seem a bit strange at a Tribe game however.

incredibly smart strategy and they should have people with sandwhich boards outside the ‘Q’ after the game to make sure people know too.

i mean, if you are only going to have 10K in the seats, you might as well get another 2K or so people at a discounted rate.

$5 is too much to pay for a full Tribe game, let alone 3 innings.

  • MrCleaveland

    That’s a nice idea.

Tribe stole one today. Good job.

Weird. I’m in Chicago this weekend for a comic con, and all the Chicago teams Flee to the Cleve! Was it something I said? LOL

  • dgriff13

oh yes, total side note, but what the heck.. I’ll promote myself. I’m an illustrator for a kid’s book series, and the latest book I am working on is eco-friendly, and discusses the process of turning plastic bottles into clothing! Turns out, it’s no quite as uncomfortable as you may think ;0)

Peralta would have had a 2-run error in this game.

glad to see Choo living up to expectations at the plate. now, if we could just find someone/anyone to join him.

  • Amin

correct me if i’m wrong, but don’t the (alcohol) concessions close in the 7th? i can’t think of a fate worse than stumbling happily drunk out of a Cavs win and sobering up to watch the Tribe lose.

@Amin – Couldn’t have said it better myself.

If I had playoff tix I’d do it. The exhiliration of plummeting from electric success to sour, sewagy failure in 100 short yards -like a business organization amusement park ride. Or maybe living in Haiti. That Larry Shortpockets is selling that experience for a couple of extra rubles is just so, I don’t know, Dolan.

I like this idea. Good job by the Indians marketing department – credit where credit is due.

In fact, they should do discounted late-game admission as a rule.

  • MattC

It’s a pretty good idea – it’s also sad that the idea had to be thought of and implemented in the first place .

  • Cleveland’s Hope

If the Indians could get Lebron to play right field imagine the turnout!

  • Karsten

You guys suck. Sorry. But can it about the tribe. They’ve got a 2 game win streak going into today with a solid Fausto on the mound. I’ve got playoff tickets and I’m definitely going to use this sweet option. Peace.
