Your LeBron James Elbow Update

The most famous right elbow in the world was examined and the results are in. According to the team-

“Cavaliers forward LeBron James underwent further evaluation at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health last evening by Cavaliers Head Team Physician Dr. Richard Parker and Dr. Mark Schickendantz. He was re-examined with x-rays and MRI reviewed. LeBron has a strain of his right elbow and a bone bruise of his olecranon. He will undergo daily treatments and revaluation and a repeat MRI will be performed next week. It is not anticipated that he would miss any playing time. His status will be updated as appropriate.”

Brian Windhorst added this via twitter-

In technical terms it is a “bone bruise of his olecranon.” In lay terms, it means he banged his elbow and it is sore.

So there’s the official word. What this all means is exactly what we thought, that LeBron will play and it will depend on his pain tolerance how effective he is.

The pessimist inside wonders if this is the whole story with the injury. Let’s face it, the Cavs have nothing to gain by disclosing the full nature of the injury right now. I know it’s shocking to think that an organization might possibly not tell the world how injured it’s star player is. Tom Brady shakes his head in shame.

Dwayne Johnson would like to argue your ‘most famous right elbow in the world’ declaration, Rick.

  • typo

OMG!! LET’S TRADE HIM WHILE WE STILL CAN!!

  • Phil M

Thanks for the update, Rick (and Windy). Sounds like LeBron is fine, just like LeBron said. I hope we don’t keep talking about the elbow for the next three days. For those who do want to keep talking about the elbow, it has its own Twitter page, so please go there.

I’m really looking forward to this series. I like Rondo and Ray Allen as players but care little for the rest of the team and the organization. Rondo didn’t hurt us much, if I remember, during the season, but he’s capable of slicing up a defense like Rose was able to do against ours and is a better passer and contact shooter than Rose is. We’ll have our hands full, and I expect the series to get ugly and to go most likely 6 games, possibly 7. As LeBron said, these two teams do not like one another.

IF YA SMEEEEELLLLLLLLLL-OOOOOO, WHAT THE ROCK…IS COOKIN!

    Ya roody poo candy a$$!!!

  • Omar13Vizquel

Am I the only one who finds it funny that “Dr. Mark Schickendantz” is an elbow specialist?

  • kevin

    PANIC!!!

  • kevin

Actually, I think your reaction to this injury says more about you as a fan than anything else. My wife and I watched the game with my parents. After “the free throw” I said, “eh, he doesn’t look too bad.” My mom said, “oh I don’t know…I think they might have to amputate!”

Ok, I may have embelished that last part, but the point stands. As cleveland fans, we’re all pretty ‘glass is half empty’. It’s just a question of ‘how close to the ledge’ are you?

I love how ESPN had gone over the deep end by making “Lebron Injury” one of the highlights on SportsCenter yesterday. I guess anything they can do to make it look dismal for Clevelanders. EVEN THOUGH Lebron had said he’s fine, they had to make an attempt to make me worry myself to sleep for the rest of the playoffs.

  • Tapin

Omar @ #5, I had to google the guy to confirm it wasn’t just a bogus press release.

  • Brian

I heard that he was being fitted for a prosthetic elbow this afternoon…

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com DP

I disagree with the assessment that Rondo is a better shooter that Rose, but that’s just IMHO.

The important part of the Windy-diagnosis-piece is: “After suffering a blow to his elbow Tuesday night in the fourth quarter, James said he felt stinging pain that bothered his shooting. It is possible it could happen again if he receives another shot to the elbow but otherwise the hope is he will not be impacted.”

I mean, I know that being the fine, upstanding guys that Large Infant and Kevin “I’m Tough Until Someone Actually Challenges Me and Then I Run Backward” Garnett are, they won’t be looking to administer any untoward “shots to the elbow” at all. I can’t believe you’d even think something like that.

I suspect Shaq’s enforcer status may be reaffirmed in this series.

  • Ron from Akron

There was no evidence that it was bothering him before the collison with Rose with about the 4 1/2 minutes to go in the game. I think it may have bothered him before that but not in a meaningful way. He should fine and miss no time.

The Celtics and their jack-ass fans should spend more time wondering how to stop his potential triple-double headed their way.

  • Stinkfist

I’m with #5, Dr. Mark Chickendance? What the hell? Couldnt it at least be Dr. Mark Macarena?

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com DP

The Celtics and their jack-ass fans should spend more time wondering how to stop his potential triple-double headed their way.

Guarantee that starts and ends with Doc Rivers saying, “OK, Glen, your job in this series is to slap LeBron’s elbow as much as humanly possible.”

  • DK

I love that I can now call that giant melon’d twit Glen Davis…”Large Infant”. it works on so many more levels.

  • Todd F.

If Big Baby lays a finger on Bron Bron or any other player, Mike Brown needs to suit up Leon Powe to take him down.

  • archangel

Enough with the pessimism already. This elbow thing has been blown way out of proportion. He’s going to be fine.

  • Jack

@Big Tuna – I don’t really think that’s their angle. It just gets people to tune in…

    …like us.

    …and people who hate us.

  • Harv 21

This series has blockbuster all over it. Both teams chippy. Garnett “accidentally” slams LeBron’s elbow. Lebron doubles over with bared-teeth wince. Twenty second time out. Andy pulls off warm-ups, assistant coach Malone grabs his jersey, pulls him close and whispers three words: “Sweep the leg.”

    Is it Saturday yet?

  • Jack

    @Harv 21 – Thank you for that.

    “Sweep the leg.”

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com Denny

    SWEEP THE LEG ANDY, YEAAAAAAAA

  • Lyon

    get em a body bag

  • Jack

Unfortunately for us, the elbow, which may or may not be fine, has lead LeBron to the Cleveland Clinic, WHERE HE CONTRACTED A STAPH INFECTION! Hopefully it’s just in the elbow, and not the K2 version.

  • Billy Thomas

How about a Ray Allen elbow update? Andy I’m sure would be interested.

  • http://www.sportsfan4.com/ Adam Pieniazek

Having had a similar injury, the pain isn’t so bad, it’s the limited range of motion that really has an impact. If he can’t go through his shot motion smoothly, Lebron might end up driving to the basket more than usual. Which probably won’t be a huge negative for the Cavs consider he can drive with the best of them and he’s got options to kick out to if KG and the D shut him down in the paint.

Should be a great series either way.

  • Phil M

DP: I wrote “contact shooter” not “shooter (in general).” What I meant is that I feel Rondo draws more fouls. Maybe you don’t disagree with me on that point. I don’t have the statistics in front of me, but it seems that Rose doesn’t go to the line very much for a player who penetrates into the paint so frequently.

  • http://www.missionary-insights.blogspot.com Tmac

My concern is that last year, the Cavs also hid an injury Lebron had until they were eliminated from the playoffs. (Surgery just a few days after the Orlando series) Any elbow injury that is showing up in a MRI, on a basketball players shooting arm, will have a negative effect. You can bet Boston will be going after this injury. I still think Cleveland has the talent to beat Boston, if they rested Lebron or minimized his minutes. (If Ray Allen’s shot is off, they have no chance.) Lebron needs to be 100% for Orlando.

  • Bad Baby

Cleveland still doesn’t have the talent to beat the Celtics. Lebron will get his if his elbow will let him. Perkins and Wallace can handle fat, old Shaq. Garnett will tear up Jaminson. Rondo, Pierce and Allen will take care of the rest.
