Cavaliers vs Celtics – Game 5
May 11, 2010Cavs 88, Celtics 120: Season on the Brink

Lemme upgrade ya: “With one major acquisition, the Cleveland Browns are bidding to develop the best secondary since the Orange and Brown returned to the NFL in 1999. For a team that was ranked 29th in pass defense last season and 31st in overall defense last season, obtaining Brown is both a step in the right direction and a powerful sign of better times ahead for the Browns “D”.
Brown will without question be immediately inserted into the starting lineup and he will most likely be paired alongside cornerback Eric Wright. Wright has proven to be a solid cornerback in the league and is anxious to take the field with his new teammate. Brown, 31, hasn’t missed a single game since being drafted in 2002 and last season he finished with a career-best five interceptions.” [The OBR]

The Indians have played a relatively difficult schedule up to this point: only two of their opponents have sub .500 records at this point (the Angels and the White Sox). If there was ever a time for this team to “get well” (and if there was even a point), it would be now. Before the Tribe closes out May with a series in New York, they finish up with the Royals, travel to Baltimore, play two in Tampa, and then see Kansas City, Cincinnati, and the White Sox at home.” [Let’s Go Tribe]

Why we won’t see the relocated Toronto Blue Jays game in Cleveland: “With local rivalry games (Orioles and Reds) slated somewhat nearby for that day, the Nationals and Indians have similar issues as the Cubs-White Sox. Plus they don’t normally draw well when their actual teams are at home.” [Big League Stew]

Tressel Ball: “By far the league’s deepest unit, Ohio State enlists seven backs this year that could possibly tote the rock. Brandon Saine (145-739-4) and Boom Herron (153-600-7) lead the group that also includes Jordan Hall (48-248-1), Jaamal Berry, Carlos Hyde, Jermil Martin (11-84-1), and incoming freshman star, Rod Smith. Also included in this group is fullback Zach Boren (4 rec. for 23 yards and 1 TD in 2009), who has shown the ability to be a pass catching threat out of the backfield this spring. I think this is a unit that could leap to the top of this list when it’s all said in done after the 2010 season, especially if Saine continues to develop and either Jaamal Berry or Carlos Hyde can provide some additional production to the already steady trio of Zoom, Boom, and Jordan Hall.” [Eleven Warriors]

And finally, about that hopeful 2-0 start… “On paper, the Chiefs are a great Week Two matchup and could give the Browns some great momentum heading into what will be an incredibly tough stretch of their calendar. Certainly, the record-breaking visions of last year’s KC matchup are not that distant in the minds of Browns Nation. However, the Chiefs could surprise this year. With Thomas Jones and Jamal Charles, they could easily feature one of the more dynamic running attacks in the league. And against a defense probably still trying to find its feet, this could prove dangerous.” [Cleveland Reboot]

I’m excited about Jamaal Berry. I’m of course basing this off of his high school highlight reel since the guy can’t get/stay healthy. That’s impressive depth in the OSU backfield none the less.
I sure hope the Browns have a deep and talented secondary. The lack of pass rush we are seemingly going to have is sure going to test them.
Ahh, the sound of knives sharpening, awaiting your 10:00 post …
Was there some sort of important game last night??
ill just say it now for fun…if the team obviously doesnt care, why should I?
Anxiously awaiting the mutiny on the bounty article that is surely coming. This team is not right. It is plain as day.
Living in Columbus, I can only imagine the scene in Cleveland…air raid sirens going off, rabid people running the streets, mobs of people banging on the doors of the Q…
Wouldn’t Sheldon Brown possibly be moved to safety to make way for Haden? We should expect our first round picks to start immediately, no?
LMAO @ 6… What a great mental image.
I’m a little bitter that the high point of the night was seeing Taylor Hicks. The lowlight, besides the game, was getting a salsa bath when 2 Cavs fans started posture fighting with two guys wearing Yankee hats.
In an attempt to try and ignore the Cavs for a few minutes…
@ #7…this confuses me too. Theoretically one of the Brown/Haden/Wright combo is should be at safety, with Brown seeming like the most logical candidate…wouldn’t seem to make sense to have one of your (theoretically) 3 best defensive backs playing 3rd CB when you’re starting some schmo at safety.
Haden can play nickle. Spending the 7th pick in the draft on a nickle back sounds about right.
@ chris- do you really just want to pencil rookies in to start? I like that Haden will have to work to get on the field. Not that I dont think he will be good, but we just gave Wright and McDonald starting jobs and they just felt entitled to those and therefore we havent seen growth out of those 2. Im sure if Haden is better then wright he will play, but I like that they are going to challenge both Wright and Haden to get better rather then just say, heres the job.
@Bobby – Totally agree. Make Haden earn the start.
