LeBron James Revealing Harsh Realities in his Refusal to Speak to Tom Izzo
June 14, 2010While We’re Waiting…Loyalty vs. Leaving For the Money, Celebs, and The Youth Movement
June 15, 2010According to Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland LB D’Qwell Jackson has signed his one year offer sheet from the Browns ending his restricted free agent period.
“D’Qwell was ready to get on with the season and let his play dictate his value,” said Mackler. “D’Qwell is healthy and looking forward to having a Pro Bowl-caliber season. He feels the defense has a chance to be really good this season and he’s excited to get back on the field.”
The remaining restricted free agents are Jerome Harrison, Abe Elam, Matt Roth and Lawrence Vickers. As we talked about a number of times here, the Browns hold all the cards in these deals. The Browns, under the CBA have the right to reduce these offers after June 15th and have sent letters to each free agent informing them that they will in fact exercise that right.
Expect to see Harrison, Roth and Vickers sign their deals in the next few days. Elam could be a different story. His contract offer would only be minimally reduced (from $1.76 million to $1.65 million) and he could have more leverage with rookies and career back-ups on the roster to take his spot.
UPDATE: According to Cleveland.com all of the Browns’ RFA have now signed their tenders.

I’m glad to hear this. Jackson did the right thing. Hopefully he can make his money and get a more protected contract (not likely, but bigger signing bonus) after all of this lock out stuff is a thing of the past.
The whole Matt Roth situation boggles my mind. He really hasn’t had any banner years in the NFL (if memory serves right) and he was here for 6 games. Now he wants a big deal? C’mon Man!
@Vare-A-Jay
He played well, but you have to expect the Browns to want him to prove he can play to that caliber for an entire season.
Can’t see the current regime being held hostage that often*. Looks like Mangini would be fully prepared to go forward with guys who are willing to play, regardless of the talent level. Seems like a Belicheck-kinda-thing to do. If Jackson plays this year and then goes elsewhere next year because of this, I don’t predict the gnashing of teeth in Berea.
* The Joshua Cribbs situation was exceptional.
“… let his play dictate his value …”
That sums it up. To every single professional athlete: Please take note.
Wait, I thought he had cleaned out his locker. Or sold his house in Strongsville.
The PD is saying all the RFA have signed their tenders. I think the Browns handled all of this well. I would be hard to screw it up but the Savage team did that a lot with the contracts they handed out – looking at you Corey Williams.
The Walrus gets what the Walrus wants.
I feel lost without a QB competition going on…I wonder if DA and BQ still talk…or..talk at all…
Its good that all the guys signed their deals, but lets get real here, Matt Roth is the only one with a real good chance of being here next year. I just dont see DQ as an impact ILB. I thought he was before he was out last year, but theres not much difference between him and any other of the 5 ILB we have. Roth has the chance to be what everyone hoped Wimbley would, so I can see him getting a deal, and hopefully Vickers as well. But Harrison, Jackson, and hopefully Elam wont be needed come 2011.
[…] It started with the signing of D’Qwell Jackson and the rest of the restricted free agents. We talked about that on Monday, but we didn’t know at the time who the team had released to make room for the five […]
