Fujita does rebuilds: “Scott Fujita is big on rebuilding projects. The former Saints linebacker was involved in one the winter after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and now he is deep into another as a linebacker with the Browns.
The Saints were 3-13 the year before Fujita signed with New Orleans as a free agent in 2006. Seven months earlier Katrina devastated the city. The losing record and the storm damage could have driven Fujita away. Instead, those conditions and Sean Payton, at the time a rookie head coach, lured him to the Saints.
Now Fujita finds himself in a similar situation with the Browns, minus the hurricane damage. The Browns are in dire need of repair after going 5-11 in 2009 after finishing 4-12 in 2008. There is excitement in Cleveland because the Browns did win their last four games in 2009, but everyone involved knows much has to be done.” [The OBR]

Aside from that line drive… “The Indians brass has seen [David] Huff regress in 2010 as his BB, K, HR and FIP numbers have all gotten significantly worse.
He has been a strikeout pitcher for much of his professional baseball career as his career MiLB K/9 sits at 8.1 and that would even be just about 9 except for a stint in Kinston in 2007 where it was a lackluster 6.9.
In Cleveland he has managed to whiff just 4.3/9 so he has not been able to carry over his ability to get swings and misses to the majors. He has gotten slightly over 5% swinging strikes on his pitches while his 90.3 mph fastball has not been overpowering enough to allow him to get enough outs to be a starter the team can rely on.” [Waves of Arms]

Sigh: “Hey, Brian: Why can’t the Cavs hire Doc Rivers for $8 million a year to coach?” [Brian Windhorst]

And finally, if you didn’t get a chance to read it, Doug Farrar has an excellent article of what the Browns can do with Josh Cribbs and Seneca Wallace on the field together in 2010. [Yahoo! Sports]

I am only interested in one thing that Josh Cribbs and Seneca Wallace can do together on the field — WIN FOOTBALL GAMES.
Some of these articles on LeBron and the free agent waltz are just embarrassing to read. “Some in the crowd seemed uncertain how to act around James, perhaps fearing the wrong comment could drive him away for good.” Really? Because that certainly seems rational. I WAS GONNA HEAD OVER TO THE TEAM FACILITY RIGHT AFTER JUDGING THIS DUNK CONTEST AND SIGN THAT MAX DEAL, BUT THEN SOME GUY IN THE CROWD SAID DON’T LEAVE BUT HE FORGOT TO SAY PRETTY PLEASE, SO PEACE OUT CLEVELAND. NEW YORK HERE I COME!
If the team resolves to record an album together, LBJ stays.
wowza, I’ve never heard windy so snarky.
Hmmm. Varejao + Shaq S&T to Toronto for Bosh/Turkoglu. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Would we do that?
Also, I’m tired of this game and have been for a while. How does it make y’all in Cleveland feel when everyone says, “if Lebron leaves the town will slide off into Lake Erie”?
The season is over. Lebron could have approached free agency with class and dignity, but he did not. (The silver lining is that neither did any of the other big free agents.)
Now it’s time to stop treating him like a spoiled superstar. Danny Ferry and Dan Gilbert better have a plan. Cleveland fans should show support and understand that we’re obviously better off with Lebron. But there’s no need to assume a fetal position, clutch our blankets and suck our thumbs, trembling lest Lebron betray us. If he does, life will go on. If Gilbert is so worried about the team losing value, he’ll do what it takes to rebuild. If nobody goes to Cavs games anymore, they’ll find something else to pass the time. The Browns will likely get better. The Cavs will eventually have another early pick.
Roosevelt has an idea.
I think that, to keep LBJ, we need a ring-wearing coach (or K?), unless LBJ is basically a homer.
Ring-wearing coach may need a better stack of starters, beyond LBJ, to be drawn out of his comfy place.
I hope for nicely drawn option contracts on the horizon.
@6 – well put.
And I do believe there is a possibility for a S&T with Toronto, especially with Bosh coming out and publicly stating there was no list (possibly he had a list and the cavs weren’t on it till the talked to bron about maybe a S&T to cleveland?).
Conspiracy theories aside, with Turkoglu wanting out I think that gives the cavs a ray of hope to pull a deal to take that monster contract off Toronto along with Bosh (and possibly Jose Calderon? I read a trade situation somewhere with him involved). Hedo saying he wants out PLUS Toronto saying they would want to pull a S&T makes me think it could happen if Lebron commits or at least tells Bosh he will.
I’m growing uncomfortable with my comment at 7.
I just don’t know that much.
I love seeing Windy get snarky like that. I would too, if I had to deal with the likely flood of stupid panicky questions from everyone.
If the Cavs change the mascot to a man in tights, LBJ stays.
If the comment section of the Plain Dealer is any indication to the caliber of people writing Windhorst emails than Windhorst was kind in his responses.
If the next coach is Big Momma, LBJ and D-Wade are on board.
-last silly comment of the day.
@15 does that mean their going after Juanna Mann in FA?
**they’re**….grrr
Juanna Mann
I get it
