MLB Trade Rumors: Jake Westbrook Traded to St. Louis Cardinals
July 31, 2010While We’re Waiting…King Cribbs, Anger over anti-LBJ sign, NBA Franchise tags
August 1, 2010First round pick Joe Haden has signed a 5 year contract with the Browns. According to his agent and the Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot, the deal is worth $50 million over 5 years, with a $12M signing bonus to be paid out this year and a total $26 million guaranteed (the Raiders jumped out and signed Rolando McClain, the 8th pick, to $23M guaranteed earlier in the week). Haden had been the lone holdout from the Browns 8 man 2010 draft class. With a large chunk of first rounders signing yesterday, it appeared the Haden deal was imminent. With a new CBA on the horizon, Haden will likely sign the last Browns rookie contract of this size and under the NFL’s current rookie wage scale.
Haden has been in town the past few days, expecting a deal to be done by today. While he missed this morning’s session, he should be available to practice this afternoon at 5:45 PM. Coach Mangini reiterated in his press conference this morning that it was imperative for the DB to get in to camp ASAP and not miss any more sessions. Haden will wear #23 and fight for starting CB spots with Eric Wright and Sheldon Brown.
