After this week, some NFL reporters are now rooting for the Browns: “When Cleveland fans have cried their final tear over LeBron James, the local superstar whose breakup with his hometown Cavaliers couldn’t have been more tacky if James had written it on a Post-it instead of announcing it on his one-hour nationally-televised ego trip, they will look to the upcoming NFL season for hope and positive news…But maybe hope is not lost. Jake Delhomme, the veteran quarterback who was signed in 2010 after seven years in Carolina, sees sunshine behind the dark clouds. He said as much last month when he told me he senses the Browns are on the cusp of one of those head-shaking turnarounds. He said it’s the same feeling he had in 2003 when he left New Orleans to sign with Carolina.” [Jim Trotter/Sports Illustrated]

Getting through it: “Being a Cleveland fan is what I am, but it’s not who I am. I have my opinions about what the GMs, coaches and players should do; but they are no more or less valid than anyone else’s. That’s the great thing about sports – there’s room for everyone and for everyone’s perspective. If you are Dan Gilbert, Randy Lerner or Larry Dolan, then sports is a business. Same for the players. For the rest of us, it’s entertainment. At the end of the day, win or lose, we’re all Cleveland fans and we all want the same thing – to cheer for a championship team. And that day will come. Until then, ‘every little thing gonna be all right.’ I promise.” [Titus Pullo/Red Right 88]

Slowing down the LBJ hate: “I’m not trying to defend Lebron. Though his decision to leave was perfectly legitimate, he handled the entire situation in the worst possible way, and I, too, hoped he would stay in Cleveland and prove he could win over there. But I do think that this backlash has been overdone. Has Lebron shown that he’s a narcissistic human being with little to no awareness as to how his decisions affect the millions that idolize him? Yes. But this decision does nothing to diminish the fact that he is the best player in this league, that his MVP awards were blowouts of the 1992-Dream-team-against-Angola proportions, that he single-handedly carried the worst NBA Finals team ever within four wins of an NBA title or that, from a skills-only standpoint, he might be the greatest player to ever play basketball.” [Noam Schiller/Both Teams Played Hard]

Great interview with Joe Tait: “It was an embarrassment to everyone involved — the league, ESPN, LeBron, everyone. Making it worse, they didn’t even know it was an embarrassment…How about this: It also was a culmination of six weeks of [free agent] unbridled idiocy.” [Cleveland.com/Plain Dealer]

A good breakdown of the Tribe’s pitching prospects: “The 4th of July has come and gone which means it is more than time to provide an overview of how the Indians minor league system has fared to date. The Indians entered the 2010 season with a very strong, very deep talent pool, with a lot of the high-end talent thought to lie in pitching (check here for a recap of the system at the beginning of the season). The quick answer to how the Indians system has fared this season is that the hitters have done well and the pitchers have done poorly. The disparity in performance between pitchers and hitters is especially noticeable on the high end of the prospect list, as most of the hitters that matter have done pretty well, while most of the high-end pitchers have struggled in one way or another (or several). I’ll start the recap here with the bad (the pitchers), and then follow up in a second post with the good (the hitters) and a few summary thoughts.” [APV/Let’s Go Tribe]

Browns position previews – OLB, strength in numbers?: “Considering that both Gocong and Benard are question marks, this position will only go as far as Roth, Fujita and Bowens can take it. Given Fujita and Bowens’ veteran legs, this could prove alarming as the season stretches on. Of course, as we’ve witnessed for close to a half-decade now, the Browns’ defense is only as good as its’ pass rush – or lack thereof. In many ways, the MVP of this group is not a player, but instead is Rob Ryan’s creativity as a coordinator. Because the talent is still thin and brutally undefined, Ryan will have to again scheme his way to success in 2010.” [DK/Cleveland Reboot]

At least Knicks are sad too.
And are stuck with Amar’e on the books for $100MM.
Please tell me that banner is really up. I will go downtown right now and just stare at it for hours.
Sp, I guess the Atlanta Hawks really want Mo and Shaq, they are talking to the Cavs about Childress and Marvin Williams. We better get more in return if we are trading Mo.
Does that mean Delonte (our best trading piece) will be off the market. We will need a point guard, and Boobie isn’t the answer. Boobie plays better away from the ball.
No more player photos wasn’t once enough? Besides that with any luck (bad) Cribbs will either under produce or worse yet suffer a season ending injury. Btw Cribbs took his ball and went home this despite having just signed a new deal the offseason before. Call me crazy but this isn’t that far from a LeBron if anything it’s worse. Cribbs was under contract then basically quit until the Browns were good enough to renegotiate. I hardly think this is a suitable replacement sign unless one is aiming for a potential wall of shame.
Btw one silver lining in the departure of James is at least he didn’t go to New York!
The Browns were good in the 80’s
The Indians were good in the 90’s
The Cavs were good in the 2000’s
Is it the Browns turn again?
Cribbs didn’t “choose” to stay a Brown. He had no other options, we reworked his contract.
@ historycats — Gladiators’ turn? lol.
All kidding aside, I sure hope so.
@5 Dude how can you forget about that championship juggernaut of an indoor soccer team better known as the Cleveland Crunch? How soon they forget!
I think they should still put a huge mural there that has all the Cleveland logos on it.
@ Shamrock. Shut it.
I do remember the championships of the Crunch. I remember them so much that I also remember the Force. I still have my Cleveland Force flag.
So shut it.
Kai Haaskivi FTW!!
@10 Your rude I was joking besides I said the Crunch not the Force. I followed the Force as well besides Kai I liked Bernie James. I even met them all so in yo face!
the website on the josh cribbs sign isn’t even up……..he’s a bad man though and I can’t wait to see him run over the steelers again!
“How about this: It also was a culmination of six weeks of [free agent] unbridled idiocy.”
That’s completely unfair. The unbridled free agent idiocy has been going on for years, not a mere 6 weeks.
