While We’re Waiting…Browns QBs, Delonte to Lakers, Jhonny’s Big Debut

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com

Delhomme and DA both make the list of worst offseason signings: “The Browns will pay Jake Delhomme $7 million in 2010, a stunning reward for one of the most dramatic falls from grace any quarterback has experienced. Making the move even more puzzling is that, with the exercise of patience and the application of a poker face, the Browns eventually could have gotten Donovan McNabb for the same deal that the Redskins cobbled together in early April — a second-round pick now, and either a third-round or a fourth-round selection next year.  Some Browns fan may defend the move by explaining McNabb is 33, and he could soon enter a decline. Meanwhile, Delhomme is 35, and he’s already skydiving without a parachute.” [Sporting News/Mike Florio]

In-N-Out freestyle forthcoming: “The Los Angeles Lakers might end up getting the man they were hoping for in the first place.  The Lakers had been trying to trade Sasha Vujacic with a first round pick in order to get his salary off the books. They had attempted to make the trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers for Delonte West.  That did not work out and on Tuesday the Cavaliers traded West to the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, the Timberwolves will ‘almost certainly’ buy West out of the remaining $4.6 million on his contract for $500,000, making him a free agent.  If the Lakers can move Vujacic, sources say that they are going to add Delonte West to the roster.” [The Lakers Nation]

Ohioans and former friends of Ben drop some embarrassing & hard truths: “In any case, Roethlisberger has exhausted whatever good will even the most die hard of fans might have held for him due to his numerous off the field incidents (even to the point where the NFL has suspended him for 6 games despite the fact that Roethlisberger has not been charged with a crime), and a recent New York Times article, with quotes from many including Roethlisberger high school teammate and our second favorite OSU kicker of the 2000’s, Josh Huston, sheds light on the kind of attitude that can lead to some pretty unforgivable behavior by a man with a lot of money and a lot of entitlement.” [Johnny/11W from NYT]

Browns QB preview: “As for the guy who everyone wants to know about, don’t expect to see McCoy on the field anytime soon. The organization has made it clear that it does not want to see McCoy playing in 2010, because that would most likely mean the season went south pretty fast. McCoy will benefit greatly from watching on the sidelines (like so many great quarterbacks in the league) and having Delhomme show him the ropes.  It is obvious that team president Mike Holmgren has a plan in regards to McCoy, but, judging by Holmgren’s track record, it probably won’t stop the Browns from at least entertaining the thought of drafting another quarterback in the next few years. Not to mention the Browns seemed content to let McCoy keep falling in last April’s draft.” [Steve DiMatteo/Dawg Pound Daily]

As camp opens, projecting the final 53 man: “Every year, I fill in each player’s name either on the ‘roster’ side or the ‘cut’ side, without tallying whether or not I have surpassed the 53-player limit. Then, I count up the left side, and if I am over 53 players, I weigh my options and decide who the ‘tough’ cuts are. For the second year in a row, my initial count came to 55 players, meaning I had to cut two players I initially wanted. Those players were Raymond Ventrone and Brandon McDonald…” [Chris Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature]

Jhonny with a big debut in Detroit: “Jhonny Peralta sure knows how to make an entrance.  Peralta, obtained Wednesday from the Cleveland Indians, hit home runs in his first two at-bats for the Detroit Tigers against Boston Red Sox All-Star Jon Lester. He powered his new club to a 6-5 win Friday night, breaking a four-game losing streak.” [Steve Kornacki/MLive.com]

But where will Gloria live? Miami? LA? Maybe she settles somewhere in the middle? Look out Kevin Durant, she’s coming to OK City!

GREAT news for Delonte if it happens! Wish him the best.

If Delonte ends up on the Lakers, it will just be that much better when they beat Miami.

Delonte and Ron Ron on the Lakers would be amazing. Can you imagine the fear other teams would have of those two?
