July 7, 2010Report: LeBron James Decided/Leaning Toward Signing with Miami
July 8, 2010While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com
“More than a few NFL coaches create the impression that their overall success in life has caused them to lose touch, that they’re no longer “regular guys.” Though plenty of people lump former Jets and current Browns coach Eric Mangini into that category, I picked up on at least one trait when visiting him in Cleveland that connects him to plenty of the men (and maybe a woman or two) who closely follow football. […]
It was the kind of glimpse we never see during which the team and/or the coach exclusively controls the message. For Mangini, the problem has been that his accomplishments at a young age, his close ties to Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Mangini’s occasionally demanding methods, and his lack of postseason victories and/or appearances in four years as a head coach have caused many to assume the worst.” [Mike Florio/PFT-NBCSports]

You said you was king, you lied through your teeth/For that [forget] your feelings, instead of getting crowned you’re getting capped: “Ultimately, though the biggest beneficiary of staying in Cleveland with regards to comfort is Lebron himself. Whether it is fair or not, if Lebron were to leave he would NEVER be able to comfortably live in Akron the rest of his life. He would be a King without subjects. He would be neither feared nor loved, but despised.” [OK Confucius]

“No, I don’t understand all the hub-bub over LeBron’s decision to announce his free-agency fate during a one-hour televised special on ESPN (Thursday, 9 PM). Things I do understand about LeBron’s decision to announce his free-agency fate during a one-hour televised special on ESPN:
1) I’m glad I know what time the announcement is coming; 2) I’m glad I can watch it on TV;
3) I’m glad that as a result of the event being televised, millions (or at very least hundreds of thousands) of dollars will be transferred to the Boys and Girls Club by way of the decision to donate proceeds from the event to the organization. What else is there to say about it?” [Cleveland Frowns]

And finally… “The other day I was thinking about how much certain coaches just get on my nerves. Maybe you have felt the same way, maybe not. But when I saw a story on ESPN and they showed a clip of Nick Saban it just made me grit my teeth. What is it about that guy that causes such a vitriolic reaction? I’m not sure, but as I thought about it, I realized that there are several coaches along the college football landscape that really irritate me, and Saban is not even the worst of them.” [Eleven Warriors]

DING! DING! DING ! and JPS3 is the winner!
@32 there is nothing Lebron can do about the spotlight. Remember the spotlight found him in highschool. He didn’t do anything other than play ball. So, he may as well try to control as much of it as he can. I do find it interesting that some of the same people that whined that Lebron’s an attention whore for not talking, not sure how keeping quiet makes one an ego maniac but anyway, then turn around and whine that he’s now going to talk. He’s damned if he and damned if he doesn’t.
@23 Wow Rich look at the number on your comment. I’m beginning to wonder are you a fan of basketball, or a fan of the Cavaliers. You keep talking about Jordan and what he did and didn’t do. You seem oblivious to the existence of Scottie Pippen. Jordan, who didn’t win a playoff series until Pippen and Grant showed up, didn’t need to leave and play with Ewing because Jerry Krause made rational and intelligent decisons. The Bulls never passed up an opportunity to improve. They didn’t keep players around for sentimental reasons, and then max them out for more years and money than was warranted. Because of that, the little money the Cavs had left could only be offered to even less talented garbage. There was nothing stopping the Cavs from building from the ground up around Lebron in a similar fashion that the OKC Thunder are building around Durant except the Ownership/managements short sightedness and incompetence. Let’s face it the Cavs haven’t been run in an intelligent manner since Mike came thru town in the 1991 playoffs.
I’m hoping Lebron bolts. I want all of you Cavs fans to get a good look at what Paxson/Ferry put around Lebron in all it’s splendor. You guys don’t realize it now but, Lebon covered up a whole lot of talent problems with the Cavs.
“didn’t need to leave and play with Ewing because Jerry Krause made rational and intelligent decisons.”
The Cavs didn’t have that luxury with Paxson torpedoing the team and giving away draft picks annually.
Also, Lebron was good enough to take the Cavs immediately out of the lottery, even if they had draft picks. Your selective memory is cute.
#39 Stin4u, I will be bitter also…Especially since, Lebron is actually from this area–and knows all the heartache Cleveland Sports fans have been through…But, I will still hang in there with the Cavs–no matter what…
WFNY,
Please use your influence in the blogosphere to begin a campaign in the state of Ohio, and beyond, to donate (and match or exceed) the amount of money that, He-Who-Shall-Henceforth-Not-Be-Named (Lebron James), has donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
There is no reason that he should be allowed to use his access to the media conglomerates of our nation to salve the pain of the sin he has committed against the good people of Ohio or to implicate the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in that same sin.
It would be just and right if those of us with the means donated to the same charity with an amount they can afford. Not one of us has the means that He-Who-Shall-Henceforth-Not-Be-Named has, but there are more of us. Our voices should be heard. The people who will continue to LIVE in Ohio should support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ohio.
I will make the first contribution of $200.00.
WFNY, just tell me where to send it.
I urge all other WFNY posters to ask the same question of our moderators.
