Preseason Game #3: Browns vs. Lions – Open Thread

It’s the Great Lakes Classic – that venerable tradition, celebrating the clash of two of football’s greatest powers, in an all-important preseason matchup.  It is, however, the most important and indicative preseason contest for the Browns and those who follow their every move with great interest.  It’s the one contest that most closely resembles a regular season game when the outcome is supposed to matter.  It is expected that the first team offense and defense will play at least the first half and potentially see some time in the third quarter as well, and that includes quarterback Jake Delhomme.  Kickoff at Ford Field is scheduled for just after 5 PM on this early evening Saturday night contest.  Join us in the comments as the anticipation ratchets up with the season getting closer and closer.

The Brown O-Line tends to handle 3-4 defenses much better then it does 4-3 defenses.

With Ndamukong Suh getting double teamed, old friend Corey Williams is having a field day being back in the 4-3 where be belongs.

So it will be interesting how the Browns front line does here.

    By the way,

The crowd will be asked to pray for one minute before the National Anthem. Hopefully they will be able to impart additional wisdom into the brain of Paris Hilton’s lawyer.

In tough times like this, America has to pull together.

Sorry about that, my browser refreshed when I was typing :(

    As I was saying,

Finally I get to catch the Browns NFL Yearbook. The ending with Mangini joking around with Hardesty really pushes the light hearted mood Mangini has had the past few months. Makes me love him as our coach. As long as he doesn’t do dumb things off the field to the players, I love him running this team.

  • S-Dub

I’m in BG and the game isn’t televised. Why Time Warner, Why? It’s halfway between Detroit and Cleveland? Doesn’t it make sense that it should be on here? Pissed

  • Corey

Where can I find this game on an online stream?

  • Steel Merkin

S-Dub – Can you get the NFL Network? It’s nationally televised.

  • S-Dub

No, it’s time warner’s fault ugh

  • Gregg

Seems like a strange place to insert Wallace for two plays. Jake had good rhythm and I felt like he could of brought home the TD.

  • Steel Merkin

That’s a shame. Browns first drive was efficient, but sputtered inside the ten. They ran two red zone plays with Wallace at qb, then Delhomme couldn’t find anyone open on third down. They got a FG. 3-0

  • chris

    where can i watch online??

  • triberocks4

@Gregg: I agree. Delhomme was something like 7/7 before that miss on 3rd down. I gues Gini just wanted to get SW some experience in the RZ.

atdhe.net has a good stream if you download the vshare plug-in. dont know how safe it is. we’re using an old computer.

  • Romeo_Crennel

Got it atdhe.net by downloading a plug in

  • b

early assessment is offense YAY defense BOO

  • BuckeyeDawg

wow…that was dirty. Suh should have been ejected.

TD Browns! DelHomme looks real good.

  • Nick

Suh is going to get fined. This isn’t the UFC.

Delhomme is looking really sharp. I can’t believe how long it’s been since we’ve seen a QB that gets rid of the ball quickly and makes accurate throws. I don’t think Harrison is running very well- keeps going down with touch contact. Not running north/south, keeps trying to bust outside. I’d like to see some Hardesty…

RUT ROH – Sorenson hurt on kickoff, all players out on the field… looks really bad.

  • BuckeyeDawg

NIck Sorensen is down…definitely looks like a concussion, hopefully not worse. Got lit up pretty good on the kickoff.

  • Nick

    Carted off, completely immobilized. Yikes…

  • TSR300

At the game. Who got hurt?

  • Mkhan

Harrison has been looking really bad. I feel like there may be a legit chance that Hillis will be our feature back. Passing game looks great tho. Still can’t judge the D very well.

  • CleFanVA

    CRIBBS!

  • BuckeyeDawg

what a great catch by Cribbs…that was a big time play.

Hillis is a freakin’ animal. He just doesn’t go down without at least 2 tacklers…

  • CleFanVA

Quinn for Hillis looking like the best move of the decade right now.

  • jimkanicki

difference in game is lack of discipline by lions. they’re playing like romeo is their coach. thanks mangini!

  • JM

I truly believe that the pre-season is not going to be the highlight like it is every year. This team looks sharp, focused, and determined. I am thinking we might have some fun this year. At least I hope!

  • TSR300

Im at the game. We look like a decent offense.

  • BuckeyeDawg

Pretty disappointed in the running game right now. Other than that, I think things are going pretty well. DelHomme looks really good, and the defense is holding their own (only one offensive TD in the first half for the Lions).

Thoughts and prayers to Nick Sorensen. If anyone hears an update, please post it.

  • jimkanicki

our D is a problem. seems like the lions are moving ball at will. that 3-15 conversion was brutal. actually brutal play calling.. blitz two corners on 3-15 rob? really? there’s way too much green when they throw their swing passes. our LBs look slow again. tweeted this earlier, but stand by it: marcus bernard is sitting his way into the starting lineup. also, i’ve long thought our secondary got crapped on too much. dont like mike adams’ and brandon mcdonald’s tackles? well if your CBs are exposed on their tackling, maybe there’s a problem in the front 7, no?

offense looks crisp. maybe it’s because he’s wearing #17, but i get the feeling that delhomme is taking away the playcalling from daboll. it’s a good thing.

and what a catch by josh.

  • BuckeyeDawg

#40 might be my next jersey purchase. This guy is the real deal.

  • jimkanicki

@buck25: it’s always a good sign when the other fan base hates a trade. broncos fans HATED that trade.

  • John

BuckeyeDawg, I was thinking the same thing. Hillis is making his way into jersey purchase territory.

  • Gren

I wish we could of stolen Scheffler from the Broncos to. Watson will be a beast at TE for us but, I think Tony is a great young TE. Lions got a perfect weapon for their young QB (along with Calvin).

  • MuptheM

In a shocking report Stallworth is hurt and out a couple months. In an unbelievable turn if events it turned out to not be a hamstring.

  • bobby

Im not gonna look too much into it, cause even if its a “dress rehearsal” its still preseason. Still, I hope we see a different and more effective D in preseason. They were roasted all game long and even in the 4th quarter it was against starters from the end of last season. I am disapointed thus far with them, but then again… just preseason. Cant wait for 2 weeks to pass by!

As for jerseys… Im like #43!

  • saggy

I may be a bit premature in saying it but it sure looks a lot like Colt McCoy doesn’t have what it takes to play in the NFL. He looks just like Brady Quinn, circa 2008.

  • http://www.msblsim.com boogeyman

@36 It’s probably from all of those five yard pass calls – quick ins, hitches, quick outs – but that’s life with a rookie QB in Cleveland. Just be thankful he’s #3 in the depth chart instead of #2 or even worse #1!

  • bobby

Colt just looks like the game is too fast. Im not worried yet tho because like boogey said, hes #3.
