Third times a charm: “There’s a growing statistical trend in the NFL that wide receivers have their breakout season in Year 3 because that is when they adjust to the speed of the game and fully understand how to read defenses and run routes. In recent years, Greg Jennings (2008), Braylon Edwards (2007) and Roddy White (2007) all had statistical leaps in their third season. Carolina’s Steve Smith (2003), Chad Ochocinco (2003) and Terrell Owens (1998) are also solid examples.
If that trend holds true this season, it could be very good news for the Cleveland Browns because Josh Cribbs is entering what we can call his third season as a wide receiver.” [Red Right 88]

Been there before… “Are the Arizona Cardinals seriously thinking about naming Derek Anderson their starter? When you watch the games it seems like it is a total surprise to everyone that Anderson simply doesn’t have the package to lead an NFL team. The so called experts shouldn’t be surprised that no matter how much talent DA has around him he isn’t going to make plays when his team needs him to. I would have more confidence in my 2 year old niece making a play on third and 7 than I do Anderson.” [No Logo Needed]

Paxson FAIL: “Dear lord, the trade that sent the Cavs’ 2007 1st-round pick to the Celtics in exchange for Jiri Welsch was awful. Horrifying, inexcusable, inexplicable, and awful.” [Cavs the Blog]

What are your traditions? “It’s been a protracted 241 days since the Buckeyes roughed up Oregon in Pasadena to capture the Rose Bowl crown. Finally, Game Week has arrived and we’re now just three days away from watching Ohio State take the field to kick off the 2010 national championship quest.
With a new season brings the timeless traditions and individual rituals that make OSU football so communal yet personal at the same time. Skull session, the plume touching hallowed ground, Across The Field, the Hive, Script Ohio and a game capping Carmen Ohio are all looming just over the horizon.” [Eleven Warriors]

And finally, Boobie Gibson awaits his shot: “Cavaliers guard Daniel “Boobie” Gibson and new coach Byron Scott already have at least one thing in common: They’re ready for training camp to start. Now. With less than a month before the Sept. 28 start of training camp, Gibson is looking forward to erasing the memory of last season and making his mark in Scott’s up-tempo offense.” [MSB/Plain Dealer]

How dare you mention Jiri Welsch this early in the morning. Trying to get our blood pressure up? How did Paxson ever think that was going to be a good deal. Even if he did it w/o caring about the long-term future, he still should’ve realized trading 2 1st round picks for a bench player Might be a bad idea.
Arizona fans, I pity you. You have no idea the amount of epic fail you will witness this year with Derek Anderson as your QB. I also feel bad for Whisenhunt. Choosing between Leinhart and D.A. must be like choosing between a root canal or a vasectomy. Or, like choosing between B.Q. and D.A.! /What a difference a year makes.
It’s funny, if you go on message board for the Cardinals the fans are having the same arguments/discussions about Anderson/Leinart that we all had about Anderson/Quinn. Some of them have no idea what they are getting themselves into.
Traditions: drink to old Ohio till I wobble in my shoes.
Yup, yup.
To understand the average football fan’s understanding of the QB situation in Arizona, one need only look at how far Fitzgerald slipped in fantasy selection. 5th round in both my leagues compared to 2nd the year before. Ouch.
We’ll win the game or know the reason why.
Derek Anderson, Braylon Edwards, and Jiri Welsch…all in the same update.
What are you trying to do to us, Scott?
