While We’re Waiting… LeBron Heckled, Surviving Santana, and Sessions Expectations

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com

LeBron James gets the buisness at Cedar Point this week: “ Jump to the one minute mark of the video to hear a woman yelling “I bet you miss” and a guy chiming in “‘Bron shoot left-handed, your elbow hurts” and “Just like Game 5.” I think the warm reception at his bike-a-thon over the weekend gave LeBron the idea things were back to normal for him in Ohio. Just like the decision to do “The Decision,” he was wrong.” [You Been Blinded]

The CAK: “One of the saddest things about The Decision/LeBacle/LeBromaggedon is LeBron’s attempt to drive a wedge into the heart of Clevekron by emphasizing the differences between Akron and Cleveland. In doing so, LeBron’s obscured one of the best things about Northeast Ohio, which is that it’s such a relatively large region with two such distinct cities (three, really, and within such diverse parkland) that are so easy to get to and fro thanks to decent spacing, a lot unlike, say, New York and Yonkers (or even Manhattan and Queens).” [Cleveland Frowns]

“Is this team still worth watching without Santana?  Santana was the brightest light on this 2010 team, with a .401 OBP and six home runs in 46 games. But Santana had proved he at least didn’t belong in the minors anymore. He’s something the Indians can be sure of (well, as sure as you can be about a catcher who just had season-ending knee surgery), they know next year they can pencil in Carlos Santana at catcher.  What the Indians don’t know, is about the rest of this team.” [Deep Left Field]

The flip side to the Matt LaPorta discussion: “Matt LaPorta has come through on numerous occasions this season. However, things have not been perfect. With a .254 average, he has had 64 hits in 252 at bats. This batting average is identical to his average last season. This includes 7 home runs, matching his 7 total in fewer at bats last season. LaPorta is consistent, to say the least. One promising aspect is that his on base percentage has increased from .308 to .324, showing signs of increased patience and an improved batters eye. Otherwise, it seems as if his growth has been frozen in place.” [Cleveland Hope]

And finally, what can the Cavaliers expect from Ramon Sessions? [Stepien Rules]

  • JNeids

What, they don’t have a Cedar Point-type amusement park in South Florida?

  • http://www.60bpm.com/ Robbie

Wow, part of me actually feels a bad that the guy can’t just go to Cedar Point without being bothered. It’s a really, REALLY small part, right under the 2nd toe nail on my right foot, though. I’m sure there are plenty of cool and fun places for millionaire athletes to go in South Beach. Leave Cedar Point for all of us poor losers who are stuck in Ohio.

  • ben

Honestly, I’m glad you said it first Robbie. That story made me sad. Although, “shoot it with your left hand” was pretty priceless.

I still am scorned by how he handled the situation, and I’m going to cheer against him and the Heat, but I did feel for him slightly after reading this.

    SIDE NOTE:

Today, I hope we get to discuss global warming or the war on terror in the comments section. We can tie that into the tribe somehow, right? /sarcasm

  • Clown Baby

What are these people thinking? #6 is keeping mental notes!

  • MattyFos

You shouldn’t pity a person who made the decisions to put himself into this situation. Save your pity for people who deserve it. People who are handed the short stick. People who get their livelihoods ripped out from underneath them. #6 deserves this kind of reception in Ohio. He needs to know that he acted like a buffoon on ESPN, and treated his NEO fans with contempt.

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com Denny

Are you guys having a pizza/pity party -

  • MattyFos

“Stuff your sorry’s in a sack”- Sal from Pineapple Express

  • Bill

I’m not completely sold on laporta, but to say his growth has frozen in place is to ignore that his growth was stunted behind Branyan. Oh, and what we don’t know about the tribe is the exact reason to keep watching.

  • Rich

Seriously, gonna quote stuff your sorry’s in a sack and give credit to Pineapple Express. Need to at least go back to Seinfeld and give credit to George Costanza.

  • ben

    @6: Who’s delivering the pizza?

  • JK

You guys are really feeling bad for LBJ? Wow that is pathetic.

  • ben

OMG – THIS IS MY SYMPATHETIC LIBERAL SOAP BOX!!!!

  • swig

I was told there would be punch and pie

  • BuckeyeDawg

The guy made his bed. Let him sleep in it. He’s got his new BFF’s and $100+ million to make him feel batter about himself.

Excuse me if I don’t feel bad for him getting heckled.

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com Denny

    Obligatory:

IF HE WALKED INTO CLEVELAND BROWNS STADIUM WE’D TEAR HIM APART! BECAUSE WE ARE REAL FANS!

  • BP

I’m sure Lebum didn’t have to wait in line 2 hours for the Top Thrill Dragster. The thought of that just pisses me off and makes me want to turn into the Hulk and smash things.

  • Kevin

Rich, if you are going to give credit to George, then you actually have to extend that credit all the way to Susan Ross, Gerge’s fiance. She’s the one who started that.

  • MrCleaveland

If he walked into St. John’s Cathedral on Christmas morning we’d tear him apart because we are real fans.

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com DP

I can honestly say that I’d love it if LeBron showed up at CP while I was there, because that would mean I could walk on all the rides without waiting while people stood around and watched him shoot hoops.

Or, as a friend of mine said this morning so appropriately:
I’m going to need people to not act like idiots every time LeBron is around. It’d go a long way toward not making the entire city look like a bunch of jealous [female dogs]. Just lose a year or two, draft Harrison Barnes or whoever is up next and rebuild. Until then, stick to being ravenous about the Browns..where blind zombie-like allegiance and passion is acceptable.

  • sam

Honestly, LeBron has made public appearances all over Northeast Ohio since “The Decision” with barely any problems at all.

That leads me to believe that, because of his “celebrity” status, people will forgive him rather quickly. Or even pretend that nothing happened. His star is burning too brightly to get heckled by fans; they are in awe of this superstar in their midst.

What does that say about sports in Northeast Ohio, or even the Cavaliers? LeBron was a worldwide star, so even if he said Akron was always his home, he really belonged to the World. And people still treat him not as some home-grown kid, but as a celebrity who actually bothers to show up at a local Ohio theme park. And they appreciate that, even if he did just stab them in the back on ESPN.

    @BP

I’m not really too bothered by that. Anyone can do that if they fork over the extra $$ for the VIP Tour. Probably a function of money more than celebrity.

  • JM

DP makes a good point. Wonder if he didn’t go on any big rides and got heckled for that too.

  • RandomHero1047

After a $100 million contract, Colin Cowherd bowing at his feet and the national media already giving the Heat the next 5 NBA titles, I think I’m okay with LeBum getting heckled. I’m actually disappointed that he wasn’t heckled MORE…

  • http://www.sundaystrategy.com Logan Cash

At what point does this site stop mentioning everything LeBron does. This site is dedicated all Cleveland sports. LeBron no longer plays for the Cavs. The sooner we stop obsessing over him, the sooner we can move on and hope for the 8th seed next year

  • mike

should the NBA have a “draft compensation” system like MLB and NFL if you lose a guy to free agency, especially guys as important like lebron and bosh? david stern should just “award” picks 1 and 2 next year to Cle and Tor, and after that is the normal course of business. i guess the “sign and trade” aspect of it makes it a moot point now but the issue remains. (not to mention, those were “sign and trades” as formalities only. both teams lost those guys as free agents in effect.) in this case, both teams HAD to create their own compensation for losing those players or risk losing them for nothing. maybe a rule that says if you offer a max bird rights contract to a player, and you still lose him, you get an extra pick just after the lottery? like a sandwich pick in MLB?

  • Brian

My favorite part is the security guy, and the fact that no one else is allowed to play the game while he is.

  • mike

with all the money lebron makes, you would think he could afford pants that fit :)

  • MrCleaveland

    DP,

Your friend makes blind zombie-like allegiance and passion sound like a bad thing.

  • mgbode

@6 and 10 – Pizza Pitas sound delicious.

  • Mark

@mike – you may be onto something there. The NFL and MLB both do it. Up until now, no one in the NBA ever turned down a max deal to leave for another team. The whole idea behind this type of sign and trade is to try and get some kind of compensation. I guess the question for David Stern is does he think this is a one time thing or is it going to be a trend?

  • mike

going to Cedar point is the eating the store brand equivalent to having fun.

  • ben

    I like cedar point!!!

  • cle

he really shouldnt be allowed in the state.

  • JM

Who really cares about the nba anymore, its turning into ghetto ball anyway.

  • Kevin

Yet another failed attempt by Denny to be funny
