Open Thread: #2 Ohio State vs. #12 Miami
September 11, 2010Saturday Recap: Buckeyes Defeat Miami 36-24, Indians Fall 1-0
September 12, 2010While We’re Waiting serves as a breakfast buffet (even on weekends) of WFNY-esque information for your early morning viewing pleasure. Have something else you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com.
Recapping the fun of last night: “So much for the revenge angle. Looking to heal the wounds suffered eight seasons ago in Tempe, Miami simply didn’t have the personnel stay with Ohio State as the Buckeyes rode a stifling defense and the back of Terrelle Pryor capturing a convincing 36-24 victory this afternoon in a raucous Ohio Stadium.” [Chris/Eleven Warriors]
What would you predict as the list of Cleveland wins this season? “Browns will go 7-9 with wins over Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Carolina, Buffalo, Cincinnati at home and Pittsburgh (twice). No joke.” [Bud Shaw/Cleveland Plain Dealer]
Interceptions the key: “It was one amazing football game as the Buckeyes faced off today in the Horseshoe with the Hurricanes of Miami (FL) for the first time since their National Championship battle in January of 2003. The game had been massively anticipated since it’s announcement several years ago and it didn’t disappoint.” [Eric/The Buckeye Battle Cry]
Grading the various Buckeye units: “Ohio State’s top four defensive linemen: A-. The Buckeyes have a history of a deep rotation on their defensive line, going as many as eight or nine players deep last season. This year, the Buckeyes knew their depth was young, so the answer Saturday wasn’t to play it much.” [Doug Lesmerises/Cleveland Plain Dealer]
Enjoying the nice early schedule: “Football is back, and the Browns couldn’t have asked for an easier start to their season (I’m sure Buccaneers fans are thinking the same thing about the Browns). I have nothing against the Buccaneers, but I’m anticipating them to be the worst team in the league this season.” [Chris Pokorny/Dawgs By Nature]
Previewing the game from the other side: “Josh Freeman is listed as probable to start at quarterback. He was held out of practice on Wednesday and coach Raheem Morris said that was scheduled to happen. However, Freeman could be one bad snap or handoff away from aggravating that thumb injury.” [Bucco40/What The Bucs]
Talking about the most recent meeting: “The last time the Browns and Bucs played was in a rather forgettable game back on Christmas Eve afternoon 2006, December 24th. Both teams entered the game at 4-11, so there was not much riding on the game, except the fact that many felt it would be a game the Browns could win.” [Matt Loede/Browns Gab]
Previewing the game in a nutshell: “The Bucs are returning to their old Tampa 2 roots, which means they will try to prevent teams from getting much over the top in the passing game. The first order of business, though, will be to try and contain the Browns’ rushing attack, including the possible Wildcat formation with Josh Cribbs taking direct snaps.” [The OBR]
Some quick injury news: “Injury Update: OL Shawn Lauvao (ankle) has been downgraded to “out” for tomorrow’s game versus Tampa Bay.” [The Official Cleveland Browns Twitter Page]
Enjoying this brief stint in the majors: “Carlos Carrasco has started 28 games this season, but we’ve only seen 3 of them. So it’s a bit jarring to see him so good and so polished given that our last view of him was as a talented but unprepared prospect at the end of the 2009 season. That final development stage didn’t happen in Cleveland, but with pitching coach Charles Nagy in Columbus.” [Ryan/Let’s Go Tribe]
Enabling room in the rotation with some expected news: “Justin Masterson is still an Indians starter, but he will finish out the season in the bullpen. Manager Manny Acta said earlier that Masterson would be limited to 180 innings for the season, and when he got close he would throw the final few innings as a reliever.” [Sheldon Ocker/Akron Beacon Journal]

Its sunday and I still live in Buffalo, so you know what that means: Does anyone have a link to a live feed of the game?
I agree with Shaw on the Pittstain games. How have they gotten better? and we went 1-1 against them last season.
