Domination: Browns Crush Patriots 34-14

The Cleveland Browns and Eric Mangini crushed the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick this afternoon on a sunny and happy day at Cleveland Browns Stadium.  It was one of the better home wins in this new era on the lake.  Peyton Hills and the Offensive Line destroyed the Pats front 7 while Colt McCoy was accurate and evasive in the pocket making plays where it appeared disaster was imminent.  Trick plays, good special teams, and a defense blossoming under Rob Ryan – analysis to follow this evening but it’s a great day to be a Cleveland Browns fans.

“And as a matter of fact, with the way this team is playing, I do think this team can win the super bowl.”

My heart hopes you are right.

My brain knows you are wrong. We are 3 – 5 now… 10 and 6 probably doesn’t get us to the playoffs in the AFC and going 8 – 0 to get to 11 and 5 is a rare accomplishment. That WILL require McCoy to win us at least one game of the next 8 that we shouldn’t… just to get to the playoffs. He will have to win us at least one playoff game too to win the Superbowl. McCoy hasn’t had to do that yet. I’m not saying he can’t… jut that he hasn’t yet. To just assume that he will with no evidence one way or the other seems madness to me.

With as many false dawns as us Browns fans have been subjected to… it seems to me prudent to see some tangible evidence from a QB that he can win a game on his own before we say he can get us a Superbowl.

So you’ll only believe we can win after we win?

  • Subadai

    @51

I’ll only believe we win after we win. In the NFL, if you believe you’ve won before you play… you loose.

Just ask the Saints and Patriots about that.

  • bobby

geez… so much arguing after a win. Superbowl? 3-5 teams dont talk about Superbowl. I am as excited as the next fan, but lets hope that the browns are a little more grounded then their fans. They have a tough test next week. Week by week fellas…

Having moved to Boston a few months ago this was amazing! I’m pretty sure people wanted to curb me for mocking Tom Terrific’s golden locks. There is nothing like being the only two browns fans (with the girlfriend who wore a Cribbs jersey) in a Boston bar during that beat down!

    Go Browns!

Oh and we looked like we learned how to play the game. Nice change of pace.

We all knew that McCoy would be the future. We just didn’t know that the future would be so soon. There were a number of plays he ran today that would have been much different if there was another QB in there. Jake would probably have gotten picked off at least twice attempting some of those throws, and Wallace probably would have run a ton more. But you know what one thing I noticed today more than anything? Robiskie made catches. Have we ever seen him be productive for anything during the regular season before today?

BTW, I think someone should switch Hillis to decaf. When he took that leap on his first run, my first thought was “Dear football gods, don’t let him destroy his leg.” My second thought was “He’s going to cough up a fumble soon.” He is an incredible player, but he’s playing like he has something to prove. We know who you are Peyton, and we like you just the way you are. We didn’t want Adrian Peterson.

I’m a little late to the party but, wile listening to the pregame show on WKNR I heard something said by LeCharles and Jerrod that I completely agree with. If you want a game to have everyone buy into the system and believe in Mangini, that was it.

  • Dave

Here’s the other part of the good news: The Browns players are believing in the organization in a way that they never were under Romeo. They’re starting to make the extra effort to give their team a chance to win. That will make the good Browns players want to stay in Cleveland, and make it more likely that good free agents will want to come to Cleveland.

Holmgren and Mangini have done it – turned the culture of losing into a culture of winning.

  • BuckeyeDawg

Great win. Fun win. If they continue to play at that level the playoffs might be a consideration down the road, but I’m saving that dream until we get to .500, at least. Win the next two and I’ll be on the playoff wagon.

My favorite part of this team is that I actually believe that they will win when they are leading in the 4th quarter. Two weeks in a row the Browns offense has walked on to the field early to mid 4th quarter with the lead, and no intention of throwing the ball. Everyone in the stadium knew it was going to be “Hillis-time”…and Hillis carried them right down the field both times for game sealing TD’s. The defense knew what was coming and they still couldn’t stop it. It’s almost like sending your all-star closer out who only has two pitches. He has a fastball and a change up. We have Hillis-right and Hillis left.

Josh McDaniels…you are the man. Thank you!

I get worried when Peyton “Thunder” Hillis jumps into the pound, that they won’t give him back.

  • Gren

That’s the best part of Hillis’ game. Even when he runs into a tough run stopping Defense (Baltimore), or when everyone in the stadium knows he’s running it, he still pushes through.

Plus, I don’t know about you guys but, I get fooled in our Play Action calls he runs it so well. When your fooling me, the cameraman, the announcers, the players (I saw a few players gun right for him after the play action), and the coaches. You are a game changer.

    Greatest trade ever !

A great game for Browns fans! From start to finish, total domination. I live in Cincy and people have been approaching me all morning to talk about the Browns.

I have been rooting all year to see Delhomme under center, IF HEALTHY, but no longer. McCoy should not come out of that lineup. He has proven himself the last 3 weeks and there should be no looking back.

Kudos to Mangini for staying the course and believing in his system.

“You play to win the game” & thats exactly what the Browns did yesterday.

  • Hamfist

    Subadai,

I won’t bash you for your caution. It is understandable. My jubilance is also tempered a bit by our history. I’ll agree that we have not seen McCoy in “pressure time”, and to be honest, I hope we never have to.

On the flip side, I am very pleased with his moxie and accuracy thus far.

  • DK

I am eating crow and will openly admit it. I do still have SOME debate in my head (probably because I over analyze – I am an analyst afterall), but from pure sports perspective and Clevelander to the core… Colt was impressive for the first time, truly owning that game, not just simply managing it. He stepped up in the pocket impressively, was able to roll out when needed and find open WRs down the field. It certainly helps to have a masher like Hillis paired with Vickers behind you to take some pressure off as well!! Loved it!! Bring on the ‘New York Ego’ because we can crush them too with this offensive line play!!

  • brownsfan019

Colt plays rest of the season and we know what we have in him for sure. As Holmgren himself recently said we gotta find out what we have in this kid – which some (myself included) have been saying here and getting crucified by others.

Colt plays the rest of the season and we not only find out if we need to draft a QB next year, but we might actually win some more games along the way.

Wallace, welcome back to your career-long backup position.

Delhomme, thanks for everything, now coach this kid up for us before you are shown the door.
