Game 10 Open Thread: Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Browns are considered a “hot” team right now and today they take their show on the road for the first time since their big win in New Orleans four weeks ago.  The Jaguars are an incredibly unpredictable team.  They have been blown out at home and on the road but have also beaten some great teams this season, including a home win over the Colts.  They are coming off a Hail Mary victory over the Texans last week.  Josh Cribbs is out for the Browns for only the third time in his career in Cleveland – a huge blow to the offensive variation we have seen from Brian Daboll recently.  You can read WFNY’s keys to victory here as well as Craig’s pre-game intel report here.  Join us in the comments as the Browns look to get back on the winning track.

  • REEPJP

    Moore in the Endzone please!

  • Stinkfist

what an idiot. Chansi Stucky is not my enemy-number-1. get out of bounds you f***ing retard

  • saggy

    catch the ball!!!!!!!!

  • Emily

God. I actually thought we would have a chance.

  • Stinkfist

    edit
    … is NOW my enemy-number-one…

  • http://www.60bpm.com/ Robbie

This will be an interesting week in Cleveland Browns sportstalk radio.

  • Emily

    We actually had a chance.

  • ManSleezee

Man… that was frustrating to watch. Can we please hire a competent offensive coordinator now who doesn’t need to rely on gimmicks to win games?

  • brownsfan019

Why don’t we use Moore more?

Kid is tall and can out jump DB’s. Split him out and use him like a Jurevicious.

  • MeandH

Daboll should be fired by tonight

  • Lyon

    1. stuckey should never play again. I don’t care if we have no one else to play WR, he’s too stupid to play.
    2. WTF Watson. It’s in your hands.
    3. Moore should be the only 1 besides Cribbs and Hillis to even get a pass thrown his way.
    4. UGH!!!

  • saggy

how long before offenses realize that it’s better to spike the ball while guys are moving, and suffer a :10 runoff and 5-yard penalty than it is to get everyone set and ready to go? it takes about 15 seconds for the latter to happen. I’d rather have the 5 seconds than the 5 yards.

  • Ryan

Man, it really looked like Considine got lucky. He wasnt even looking back (maybe pass interference?) and then the ball landed in his hands

  • bobby

How do you have a +5 TO differential and lose? Awful. A commenter last week was talking about the browns playing not to lose instead of going for the win and that happened today. The key point- after Joe Haden’s INT they had it around the 20 and try 3 runs that get nowhere. You have to attack the endzone after what was the 2nd straight turnover. Daboll was playing not to lose instead of playing to win. This loss is the worst of the season. By far.

  • C-Bus Kevin

No words to express my anger.

How do you finish a game +6 in turnovers and lose!?!

  • Stinkfist

Sleezee – I’m sure we could improve over Daboll, but when your receivers are completely worthless, and the only person you have to stop is the running back, there isnt a whole lot you can do other than gimmicks

  • JO

Pathetic. The second half was the most pathetic display of offense I’ve seen all season. Shameful. The whole offense should be ashamed of themselves.

  • stin4u

anyone still dying to use our first round pick on a pass rusher after the stellar performance of our wideouts against the bottom feeder pass D?

  • 216in614

    trash receivers…

  • Wacman

To be fair to Stuckey, the ball was deflected the split second before hit him in the chest.
    .
All around though, we didn’t play consistently enough to win the game, as indicative of the final score

  • Prospect + Donkey

Bitter from that loss but I do have a question. Did someone from the Browns sleep with Rich Gannon’s wife? The Tampa game and now this one, he’s blatantly rooted against the Browns.

  • Kevin

Why can’t we do what the Jets just did…same scenario.

  • Lyon

Stin… if anyone other than a WR is drafted in the 1st round, we’re looking at the same offense again next year. Colt can only throw to TE and RB, the wR are invisible.

    it’s so aggravating.

  • bobby

No one can try to blame Stuckey, or anyone on that last drive. Yes, I thought Watson had the ball but it was tipped right before it got to him. And yes Stuckey should have gotten out of bounds but Jac was reading that and had to guys there. The loss happened when the browns had 5 striaght TOs and only got 10 points.

  • Lyon

at least we improved our draft position

    / glass half full

  • bobby

Im on board with WR. The D played a hell of a game and they can get help in later rounds. C’Mon AJ…

  • snap

at least we didnt blow a 21 point lead like the bengals. they just lost to the bills.

  • ManSleezee

No doubt our receivers didn’t show up today, but the play calling in the second half was way too conservative. You have to take shots down the field. You can’t keep running Hillis up the middle or set up screens for Hillis every other play. They knew what was coming every possession, except for our last two drives when we HAD to take shots down the field to get into scoring position. Our receivers made plays on those possessions. Too little too late.

  • bobby

Evan Moore should be the #1 WR the rest of the season. He can beat any CB (as shown by taking the “best 1 on 1 in Revis) and then maybe MoMass and Cribbs/Stuckey get open against lesser CBs.

  • Wacman

Yeah, it’s really easy to be mad at specific players in the heat of the moment, but this is a team game. Let’s stop blaming players and start blaming the team as a whole

  • historycat

@130, when one guy can’t do his job, that’s hurting the team.

  • Stinkfist

historycat – then what is it when 3 people cant do their job (Stuckey, Robiskie, Royal)

  • brownsfan019

We should go to 3 TE sets sprinkled with 1 WR b/c this team has no WR when Cribbs is hurt.

Moore + Watson + Royal > WR core w/o Cribbs

  • bobby

@ Stink- we know we have depleted WR. I assume you singling Stuckey out for not being able to get out of bounds when 2 jags were there on the sideline. Only Hillis would have gotten out there. He did have a nice catch or 2 that really helped out in the game tho.

as for Robo… i dont know what to say. Hes s’posed to have good hands and yet a great pass and he cant get it for a 1st… just awful.

But to be fair, following the 1 play guidelines to not doing his job, what about Sheldon Brown? Are you kidding me trying to go for a strip instead of just taking MJD down? that was a disgusting play. Also what about Ventrone on his coverage of Lewis on the GTTD? get in front of him instead of giving Garrard a clear 16 yard window to bullet a pass to Lewis. He has help behind him, you cant let a big target like that be between the ball and you.

  • Chris

Unimaginative play calling did us in. Some of that because cribbs was hurt, but hillis was nowhere in the swecond half when it mattered, but we kept trying it hoping for a brak.

  • C-Bus Kevin

    Answer me this…

Why in the wide world of sports don’t they use moore more often? He’s gotta be better on the whole than robiskie. I’m sure robo is a nice guy and all, but having him out there is like playing with 10 guys. He is such a non-factor. I don’t think I’ve seen a receiver play more and contribute less.

Maybe this is the question the front office should be asking. If the browns put robo on the trading block today, what would they get for him?

    A bag of balls?
A new jacuzzi for the locker room?
Looks of contempt from other teams?
A year’s subscription to the jelly of the month club?
    A hug?

Also, worth noting that haden played a pretty awesome game in reilief of wright.

  • Stinkfist

Bobby… Stuckey absolutely should have gotten out of bounds. Take a 2 yard loss rather than trying to get a 1 yard game. Inexcusable. That was a killer. Not as bad as his fumble, but he had made poor decisions late in consecutive games.
Fine. Throw Brown in there too, although he did cause both of those Ward picks.
These Browns just can’t close out games. How many 4th quarter leads have been blown? Tampa, KC, Baltimore, Jacksonville… others? The Jets game was very winnable. I know we weren’t necessarily expecting a whole lot from this team, but it is extremely frustrating to see so many winnable games go right out the window

  • bobby

Agree with you on everything C-Bus. Robo didnt make a play. Haden on the other hand showed he deserves to start infront of Wright. He could quite possibly be our best CB.

  • bobby

I agree with that there should be a lot more wins up there. I forget who it was last week saying the browns don’t play to win, and I have to agree with him completely. Why is it always in the last 4 minutes until Moore is out at WR? if hes making plays then I bet he can do it throughout the game. How do you get only 10 points off of 6 turnovers? if you get the ball inside FG range what hurts taking a shot at the endzone on 1st down?

This team is lacking a killer instinct and I dont know if that Mangini, Daboll, or the players, but Im willing to bet its one or both of the 1st 2 guys. I like what Ive seen from Mangini but grow a pair and go for a win sometime and stick with it for more then 1 play.
