Week 10 Open Thread: Browns vs. Jets

The Cleveland Browns (3-5) host the New York Jets (6-2) today at 1 p.m. as they look to continue the momentum through to Week 10 of the NFL season. Following back-to-back impressive victories against the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots, Cleveland is one of the hottest teams in the league. Riding the strength of running back Peyton Hillis, the consistent play of rookie quarterback Colt McCoy and a impressive run defense, the Browns hope to dominate yet another perennial playoff power today.

Follow along with us here at WFNY and check out some of our earlier posts on the game: “The Browns Will Win If…” is the essential post, but we also are now featuring Craig’s intel info and a weekly staff podcast through Cleveland.com. Go Browns!

The one about when interceptions are bad….

  • Subadai

    Uggghhh.

  • Lyon

i hate Eric Wright more than LBj and Braylon. he is so useless. Can we just sign someone off the street to replace him? He can’t cover anyone or tackle.

  • boogeyman

Can we cut Eric Wright now? His normal play…chasing a WR from behind!

  • hansolo1

If Stucki doesn’t have a brainfart we win this game. Not to discredit Rogers’ no-show either.

  • Lyon

103… don’t leave Wright out of this.

  • Chris

Whatever. Split 2/3 of a TOUGH portion of the schedule and we took the loss the THE tail end of overtime.

    I am happy with this.

  • Subadai

TO be fair TJ Ward made a halfhearted attempt at an arm tackle there too. The O did not do enough in OT to win… it’s that simple.

  • TSR3000

Well…. we found our QB. We’ll see the njy again.

Loss hurts. I’m sick of moral victories but the team hung in there and played hard. Every team since 1999 would have called it a day and the blow out would have been on after the way the NYJ controlled the ball and clock in the 3rd quarter. Heartbreaking defeat but the team played hard and we have a QB. Now we need some playmakers on offense to go with Colt, Hillis and the solid O-line.

Ultimately, I think the Browns earn MAX respect for a losing team. I’m not gonna waste time with details. I think these guys look tough and McCoy is the real deal. 2-2 with a rookie QB against Steelers-Saints-Patriots-Jets. Not bad.

  • Lyon

I know we need some WRs, but I think it can be argued we need a real pass rusher even more. Imagine our D if we had someone who could actually tackle the QB. Either way, we need to get a hit on our 1st round pick in the upcoming draft. No more Mangini draft misses.

Gotta be excited for the future of this team w/ the recent play.

Which reminds me… I’m very, very happy with the 3rd rounder Colt McCoy (and Alex Mack) over Mark Sanchez. What McCoy is doing with basically nothing along the lines of receivers compared to Sanchez is amazing. He’s got way more potential than any QB the Browns have had since 1999.

Good game, played hard, obviously the Browns have some glaring weaknesses, but we just played 4 super bowl contenders and came out 2-2. This team is on the upswing not wallowing or on the downswing. Not a moral victory, would have rather the Browns win (go for 2 points at end of regulation?) but am happy the way they are playing, and have hope and confidence in the future, especially with another year of coaching and front office continuity. Heads held high Browns, Cleveland (and her expats) are behind you.

  • Chris

We need a pass rusher, some WRs, and somw legit help for Hillis (or to start using Cribbs like it seemed we were going to before he got hurt).

I would say in that order.

  • http://www.60bpm.com/ Robbie

@110 — Basically a double-post, but I think Mangini’s choice to trade down to Alex Mack is looking good to me. And, Heckert’s first draft is looking good.

Hey, hate to say it, but the Browns were NOT going to the playoffs, so… silver lining… a loss today gives them a higher draft pick. With a GM who knows what he’s doing, that can be huge.

Still, I want the Browns to win EVERY week, so this sucks.

  • Christopher

    @ 107

    Agreed. Couple of thoughts:

    1. McCoy has just made our draft MUCH easier.
    2. We must attract a top free agent CB this offseason to play opposite Haden.
    3. Speaking of the draft; Wideouts MUST be the focus.
    4. Cribbs must be considered as a halfback option instead of WR to rest Hillis.
    5. I feel nothing but PRIDE for this team today; mistakes aside to walk away from PIT, NO, NE and NYJ 2-2 is a testimony to how we have progressed this year.

  • Chris

@deebo: I was thinking go for 2 with Hillis, myself. The man falls asleep for two yards, even WHEN teams know it’s coming.

  • humboldt

Man did I want that win today – was actually able to watch the game. They gave the Jets hell, and, absent a Stuckey fumble would have won that game. I’m seeing good things from this team and, of late, they actually resemble a legitimate NFL franchise. Losing burns, but at least we lost with dignity, and gave ourselves a real chance to beat 3 NFL elites in a row
