December 30, 2010Checking in on Ramon Sessions
December 30, 2010The Browns lost the 1989 AFC Championship game 37-21 to the Denver Broncos. I found some game footage on Youtube of the game and was drawn in watching the third quarter when Bernie and the Brownies put up 21 points. It is fun to watch where the game has come from in terms of rules. It is fun to watch where the Browns were back then with Bernie Kosar. Then again, when you have Reggie Langhorne, Eric Metcalf, Webster Slaughter, Brian Brennan and Ozzie Newsome, you have a chance to be truly great.
The Browns trailed 10-0 at halftime. They got the ball first in the second half.
I skipped a couple Broncos scores that made it 24-7. Hope you don’t mind. The Browns with another scoring drive again highlighting Brian Brennan and the Browns’ defense.
The Browns fought back all the way to a three point deficit 24-21, but that is as close as they would get. Then again, it is a lot of fun to watch an offensive explosion from ye oldern Cleveland Browns.

Man I remember watching this game when I was seven. I cried when they lost. It is difficult to believe how good the Browns used to be.
They were LOADED on offense and had a really good defense too.
I remember that Kosar had an injured index finger on his throwing hand, and the trainers rigged up some contraption out of a rubber band to help him.
Wait, how did we have an explosive passing attack without an “impact,” game-breaking, first round-pedigreed, look-at-me receiver? Hmmm…. Getting off the line and precise routes are beautiful things.
Man, I miss listening to Bill Walsh. But his comments at the end about O.J. Simpson’s soothing effect on the animalistic 49er players are ironic in retrospect.
Fun fact: @ 1:30 in the second video, Enberg calls Kosar “Elway”.
I was such a huge Bernie fan. I thought he could do anything. What a great QB.
Thanks for putting these videos up, fond memories of the ole’ Browns.
Ah, the memories…to be able to watch the Browns play a game that matters! And what a refreshing reminder of how potent of an offense this was. Thanks!
