While We’re Waiting… Browns Coming Together, Bowl Season and Fun with eBay
December 7, 2010Browns Fans Taunt LeBron at Miami Restaurant
December 7, 2010For quite some time, many in the media have compared LeBron James to Brett Favre when it comes to public relations and sheer desire to constantly be among the headlines within their respective sports.
Following James’ latest comments, it appears that the two have come full circle as the two-time MVP places himself within similar company.
“Brett [had] great years here in Green Bay,” James told the Wisconsin media.
“Any time a great competitor like that leaves, no one wants to see that, but they’ve done a great job of regrouping with Aaron Rodgers and I believe that Cleveland will do the same.”
For what it is worth, following Favre’s departure heading into the 2008 season, the Packers put up a sub-par 6-10 season before getting back to a level of respectability. Last season, they were 11-5; thus far through 2010, they are 8-4 and vying for an NFC playoff spot. Meanwhile, Favre is playing on his second team since leaving Green Bay, a team that traded him to New York following seasons of offseason actions (or lack thereof) that continually kept the team in limbo.
As ESPN points out, it’s James’ “Decision” versus Favre’s “indecision.” As I’d like to point out, the Packers had the ability to draft Rogers in anticipation of Favre’s retirement – or at least staying retired. Handcuffed by a short contract, the Cavaliers were forced to turnover the roster several years in a row in order to appease James at varioius points in time.
But all of this time, many have piled on James for his lack of self-awareness. But following these comments, could he actually know how he is perceived? I chalk it up to mere coincidence.

All I want for Christmas is to not have to see that plaid shirt ever again on my favorite Cleveland sports blog
Brett Farve won a championship for Green Bay. If LeBron did the same one of the last two years when, oh, I don’t know, the team won a combined 60-plus regular season games, maybe there wouldn’t be so much hatred directed at him?
Besides the media hoopla that surrounds them, I really don’t understand the comparison that is being made. Wasn’t Favre sort of pushed out of Green Bay (much later in his career than Lebron)? Also worth noting that Brett Favre won Green Bay a freakin championship. I agree with Fern, wouldnt mind never seeing his stupid face again, more Hillis coverage pleaseeeeee.
Did Favre quit on the Packers in the ’07 playoffs vs the Giants? Maybe his throwing elbow hurt…
I knew it! Why wont the league investigate the sexual relationship and the pee-pee pictures that #6 sent to the Cavs trainer? Is it because the NBA commissioner wants nothing bad to happen to the Heat so they can win 6 consecutive championships and make him lots of money? OH MY GOD! Conspiracy!
I love how Cleveland fans keep claiming they’re “finally over it”, yet we’re still all writing and reading the most miniscule news story about this guy. We’re like the just-dumped-guy who is constantly telling people that he’s moved on.
I, for one, will not be clicking on anymore Lebron stories.
Agree with Don. Win a Superbowl before you agree with a comparison to Brett Favre.
I read his quote not as showing him finally being self aware but continuing to be completely self absorbed. He’s saying how great he is (comparing himself to Favre) and that if Green Bay can survive the loss of a “great competitor” surely Cleveland can as well.
i’m with fern
I’m so over Lebron, I didn’t even click on this story.
LeBron James Admits to Antichrist & Art Modell Similarities
There’s a Jenn Sterger joke in there somewhere. Don’t feel like fishing it out though.
@Denny – don’t worry about the fishing, Favre already used his lure to bring her closer to his rod.
“Brett Farve won a championship for Green Bay”
why don’t reporters immediately bring this kind of stuff up to him when he says stupid stuff? he might say more stupid stuff and they’ll have better stories for themselves. journalism is dead.
Favre’s one ring in his 2000 year career notwithstanding, the most striking similarity is this: They both put up freakish stats, but in crunch time, proved time and again they couldn’t get it done. Favre likes to throw to the opposite color jersey, and LeBron likes to fade or quit in the big games. lol
how many rings has brett won since he left greenbay? oh… hope the same happens to James…
To bad the Cavaliers don’t have their version of Aaron Rogers but I can’t stand Favre. Seeing him get blasted by that Buffalo LB was awesome. Hang ’em up old man! As for James try winning something you egomanical hood rat.
I no longer live in Cleveland, but once a Cleveland fan always a Cleveland fan. Let him go! Obviously he is an ego-maniac and the more we obcess over his deserting the Cleveland fans the more he gets off over himself. What goes around comes around and he has nothing but bad karma around him. He is a good basketball player, but, HE WILL NEVER BE A HAPPY MAN. When his skills start to diminish and his posse deserts him, South Beach WILL forget him, but Clevelanders will never forget him or what he has done to this city. Cleveland has always had sports heros. Lou Groza, Bob Feller, and Bernie Kosar. These men may not be rich but at least they knew their place CLEVELAND.
