November 30, 2010On Bob Saget, Rajon Rondo and Being “Fine”

If you haven’t read it yet, Wojnarowski spanks LeBron James. Again.- “Wade was one of the Team USA players who’d watch incredulously as James would throw a bowl of fries back at a renowned chef and bark, “They’re cold!” Or throw his sweaty practice jersey across the court and command a team administrator to go pick it up. Everyone wants James to grow out of it, but he’s never showed much of an inclination for self-examination and improvement. And he’s never surrounded himself with people who’d push him to do so.” [Yahoo.com]

We may have now heard from everyone on the LeBron returns to Cleveland subject. Ladies and gentlemen, Albert Belle- “If there isn’t a video tribute to James, Belle had another idea. “Maybe they could do one of me,” said Belle, with a laugh. “I never got one when I came back to Cleveland. They did it for Sandy Alomar, Jim Thome, Kenny Lofton. … Now that LeBron is catching heat, maybe they can give me one.” [Hoynes/Cleveland.com]

Cleveland State hoops off to a hot start- “Following last night’s win against Robert Morris, Waters & Co. are now 8-0. He elected to load up the non-league slate with quality mid-majors this season (Iona, Kent State, Akron and Robert Morris all have a chance to win their leagues) instead of high-majors – as he did last season.” [Jeff Goodman]

Really Dan? Over it? Really?- “I’m over it. I really am. That’s the truth,” he said. “I let it all out in about 24 hours. I just think we have such a great core and a great coaching staff. We have a lot of opportunities with the trade exception and the draft. I feel good about this team.” [Withers/Yahoo]

Somehow “Queen James” seems a better fit.
I like how the Derek Jeter Indians card has white arms.
@Matty
and the 3 stooges haircut (hat shadow but still convincing)
Wonder if Dan is still over it after watching that performance by the Cavs last night. Ugh.
LeBron is the worst ever. What other athlete petulantly complains about the locker room food?
Peyton Hillis would not even have mentioned the fries. He would have just stared daggers at them until they miraculously reheated, and then would have humbly served his teammates while thanking the chef and praising the Lord.
Do NOT want to be present if Peyton Hillis ever meets Russell Branyan. Scared what might happen, maybe the earth will stand still while The Battle ensues.
“I give a lot of thanks to that city, lot of thanks to those fans for giving me the opportunity to not only showcase my talent but grow from a young boy to a man.”
direct quote from #6 in an interview yesterday in which he was trying to thank cleveland before returning.
no no #6, thank YOU for “showcasing your talents” here.
it really is unfathomable that he cannot just say thank you for 7 great years, thank you for hoisting me on your shoulders, thank you for buying my jerseys, thank you for renewing your season tickets year in and year out, thank you Dan Gilbert for building a world class basketball organization around me.
The time has passed for what’s-his-name to thank Cleveland. It rings of empty PR speak now.
@6 – Amen to that.
I read that quote about him growing from a boy to a man and just had to laugh. I don’t think that’s happened yet, he may have man like features but deep down he’s a middle school drama queen with a silver spoon placed where the sun doesn’t shine.
I really wish there was a way to embarrass this guy on Thursday and knock him down a few notches but I just don’t see how it’s possible. He seems to be oblivious to things that defame his character. I’m still holding pat on my belief that this situation is going to blow up in Miami’s face at some point and it feels like it’s only a matter of time now….in year one. I’m happy the guy is gone, now I want to beat him.
Word #6.
I read that quote and was still shocked (even though I shouldn’t be by now) at his total arrogance and idiocy. He still has no clue.
“…lot of thanks to those fans for giving ME the opportunity to… showcase MY talent….”
In other words:
“Me, me, me, me, ME! A lot of thanks to ME for being so awesome.”
I just can’t stand a single word that comes out of his egomaniacal mouth.
I dont think Dan is over, I think he is secretly coming up with a plan for Thursday night. If he came out publicly and told fans how to act before the game he would be blasted by the media and Lebron would know what to expect. I think what he should do, is Thursday night as fans enter the Q, each fan is handed an envelope with instructions on what to do as Lebron is introduced, whether it be boo, stay silent and turn their backs, or some sort of chant. That would be a great, and only, way to get everyone in unisone and surprise Lebron. I know its just wishful thinking.
I saw a Value City Furniture commercial for the “LeBron James Signature Furniture Line” for the first time yesterday. It was basically kids bedroom sets with a basketball theme.
I just can’t believe this commercial showed on a local station in Columbus. This guy just doesn’t get it. Let me put it out there for him Saturday Night Live ‘hearing impaired’ style.
WE…DON’T…LIKE…YOU…ANY…MORE!!!
STOP…TRYING…TO…SELL…US…CRAP!!!
ESPECIALLY…CRAPPY…FURNATURE!!!!
Also, that article from AW on James is an eye-opener. I knew this guy was a jerk, but it is supposed to be an HONOR to be selected to play for Team USA. His behavior would have gotten him thrown out of a Chuckie Cheese, much less a fancy restaurant.
I can’t stand people that have absolutely no concern for how their actions negatively affect others. If I wasn’t already, I am completely convinced that we are all better off with this guy making his home on the opposite end of the country.
@TribeFan30 – Amen. I HOPE that’s what’s happening, that would be amazing.
Gilbert may not be better off without LeBron, but I absolutely believe he is happier
I find it hilarious that of the thousands who cross paths with Lebron, Wojnarowski is the only person who sees this stuff happening.
I kept saying to myself and others, “All Lebron needs to do is thank the fans and speak highly of Cleveland just once, and that will make his visit a good experience.” And then he tried it, and I see why he can’t do it. He has no clue of anyone beyond himself. Allowing me to showcase my talents? Cold Fries? Sweaty jerseys?
@ Roosevelt…Welcome to sports journalism. Nobody wants to write bad stuff about LeBron for fear of losing that all-important access. Without access, a reporter would actually have to WORK and find sources close to the situation. What a concept!
That’s why some in the journalism business call sports reporters “jock-sniffers.”
I would not include WFNY in that category.
Wojnarowski has been writing negative things about James FOREVER. He would also bad mouth the Cavs, thus I’ve always disliked him. I remember a few years back reading a different Cavs blog where this guy Amin wanted to “curb stomp” Woj for dissing the Cavs and James. Now that’s some hate that could win a guy hater of the year! On the other hand, now I like to read his Heat and James bashing, it’s fun!
