Week 17 Open Thread: Steelers at Browns

And here we are folks, the NFL season comes to an end today for the Cleveland Browns (5-10) as they host the playoff-bound Pittsburgh Steelers (11-4) at 1 p.m. It is a rematch of a Pittsburgh win earlier in the season, and the Browns will hope to match their record from last year with another upset. Colt McCoy will get an opportunity for his third win against a playoff team, but he will be tested against James Harrison and the always stingy Steelers defense. We shall see how this outcome also affects offseason feelings, much like last year’s win over Pittsburgh spurred optimism heading into the Mike Holmgren era.

    I, too, just saw CBS cut to a “more competitive game.” I would like to point out that the more competitive game features two teams that were just as bad as the Browns last year. So much for the no talent argument.

    @ 101 further to your point… Tampa Bay is playing inspired football & has a an outside chance to make the playoffs with the youngest team in the league. Last year’s 3-13 Buccaneers!

    Whatever Holmgren might think about Mangini, the players have clearly decided his job is not worth fighting for. There is no excuse for letting your (one time) rival do this to you at home. The talent discrepancy is real, but it not the yawning chasm that this game is. This ending pretty much balances out the real positives that had shown up a couple of times this year.

    I wish I had a non-linear editing machine for the real world. I could then simply splice the end of Week 13 2009 with the beginning of Week 13 2010… and it would make sense to me.

    I am inexplicably confused right now.

    It’s time for the same fans who saved this sorry franchise to send a clear message to this team and that is you are no longer going to accept this sorry bunch of crap that the Browns call football. Why Holmgren gave Mangini another year is beyond me but it’s tine for HEADS to roll. The thing I heard was that Holmgren was possibly interested in young assistant coaches as head coach possibilities. I sure hope this isn’t true I really do. Like the hiring of Holmgren this team needs a coach and staff that has experience, winning tradition and just some kind of clue. Good luck.

    If anyone cares.. we moved a couple spots up in the draft order with Detroit and Dallas winning today.. We’ll have the sixth pick next year.
