A few thoughts on Sunday’s Jets – Steelers game…
January 22, 2011Who would you rather have as a college freshman: Oden or Sullinger?
January 23, 2011Buckeyes beat the Illini, stay number one: “In a game of runs, Ohio State saved their best for last answering a 12-4 Illini run creating a 50-42 deficit with 12:53 to play with a 22-6 blitz of their own to take a 64-56 lead with 4:22 left before holding on for a 73-68 victory this afternoon against Illinois in Assembly Hall.
Freshman Jared Sullinger locked up another B1G Frosh of the Week award with a monster 27 point, 16 rebound effort including a clutch 13/15 from the stripe (10/11 2nd half). Fellow froshies Aaron Craft and Deshaun Thomas also shouldered much of the load as upperclassmen David Lighty (3/14 FG) and William Buford (2/8 FG) combined for just 16 points on 5/22 from the floor. Buford was nursing a bum ankle.
Jon Diebler picked up Lighty and Buford’s scoring slack with 15 gritty points including a big three giving OSU a 53-50 lead they would not relinquish and a smooth 15 foot floater on the baseline stretching the Buckeye lead to 62-56 with 4:53 to play.
Ohio State improved to 20-0 overall and 7-0 in the Big Ten, though it looked like that might not be the case through the first 28 minutes.
The Buckeyes can’t afford to celebrate too long as they put their undefeated mark on the line next at 9pm next Tuesday night in the Schott against #13 Purdue.” [Chris / Eleven Warriors]—
Cavs lose to Bulls last night: “Led by Antawn Jamison’s 31 points and 11 rebounds, short-handed Cleveland cut Chicago’s 20-point third quarter lead to 77-75 with 4:37 left. But a determined push ran out of steam as the Bulls scored 11 straight points to seal a 92-79 victory at the United Center.
The Cavs have lost 16 straight, 26 of 27 overall and 20 straight on the road to fall to a league-worst 8-34. The franchise’s single-season record for consecutive losses is 19, from March 19 to April 18, 1982, while the single-season record for consecutive road losses is 21, from Jan. 13-April 14, 2003.
In another disappointing development, starting point guard Ramon Sessions, who replaced the injured Mo Williams, lasted just 11 minutes in the first half before leaving with a right abdominal strain. He will be reevaluated on Sunday, with the Cavaliers heading to New Jersey for a Monday night game.” [MSB/The Plain Dealer]

Every team ripped on Peyton Hillis for being white: “Peyton Hillis is sort of a rarity in NFL history — a white tailback. While there have been a few prominent ones, including John Riggins and Larry Csonka, they’re the exception rather than the rule.
On The Dan Patrick Show, Hillis said he heard about it every Sunday.
“Every team did it,” he said. “They’ll say, ‘You white boy, you ain’t gonna run on us today. This is ridiculous. Why are you giving offensive linemen the ball?’
“All kinds of stuff like that you hear on the field, but I use that to my advantage. I kind of soaked it in, ate it up a little bit, because I enjoyed it.”
Hillis said he’s been referred to by nicknames such as “The Avalanche” and “White Rhino.”
He continued: “Coach Mangini came up to me before our first game, against the Buccaneers, and said he could see me being a 1,000-yard back. I never had a coach have that much confidence in me before. He helped me out a whole lot on a mental level.” [Fanhouse]

Hulk Hogan is rooting for the Jets, brother: “The New York Jets LB (Bart Scott) credited (Hulk) Hogan, the pro wrestling legend, for inspiring his on-field, postgame tirade after last Sunday’s win in New England.
And Hogan told ESPN he could tell Scott had been studying his moves.
“It was right on the money,” he said. “I think it’s cool that (Scott) is stepping up and showboating it a bit, because it’s about personality and entertaining people, too.
“I could tell Bart had been watching wrestling, and it’s pretty cool because a lot of these guys are afraid to step outside the box. … Sometimes when you say stuff you believe it and it happens.”
“I’m going with the Jets,” Hogan told ESPN. “I love the Steelers, but if my boys with the Jets keep talking smack over there, they’re going to go all the way.”” [Sean Leahy / USA Today]

Didn’t look good for awhile Buckeyes played down to their competition but they pulled it out. Sullinger is a beast. He has more post moves then all of the Cavaliers combined. Sullinger reminds me of C.Boozer but more polished.
Realistically, out of ten games vs. the Buckeyes, how many would the Cavs win?
Boozer is a perfect translation for Sully. A wee-bit undersized but wide bodied and works hard in the paint.
in 10 games vs the buckeyes, the cavs would win all 10. it wouldnt even be close. yes the cavs STINK on the NBA level now. against a top college team? cavs would roll. in no case would a top college team in any sport beat a bad top level pro team. its fun to imagine but OSU would get run off the court against the cavs.
Yeah pro teams are full of pro players… College teams are lucky if they have one pro bench warmer.
Cavs would win most but make no mistake that the buckeyes could pull out a few. The best player on the court would play for the scarlett and gray. Buford and lighty will also be pros next year and diebler can shoot with anyone on the cavs. One major advantage for the bucks is that tOSU plays team defense. Cavs best advantage would be speed and athletisism.
