Eyenga of the Tiger: Christian Eyenga Sits Down With WFNY
January 6, 2011When it Rains it Pours: Gibson and Powe Out, AP and Andy Questionable
January 7, 2011While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com.
Jamison seems baffled by the Cavs’ terrible perimeter defense- “I’ve been in the league for a while and to have so many teams shoot so well against you on the three-point line, I don’t think I have experienced the way teams are shooting the three-ball against us. I don’t know if teams playing us have a lot of confidence or what. (The coaches) preach to run guys off the line and in all honesty, it’s common sense to know certain teams are really going to shoot it and certain teams are not. There have been instances with a couple of teams (where) we have been there and they just couldn’t miss.” [Cavaliers United]

The above lack of defense lead to my tweet of the week, from @DeathandTexas- “I’m offering an Olive Garden gift card ($25 value) to the 1st Cleveland Cavalier to block a 3 point shot in 2011.” [Twitter]

One vote for Marty- “Marty Mornhinweg is the best head coaching candidate that the Browns can hire. Sometimes the right decision isn’t the popular one. These four reasons will hopefully convince you that Marty Mo is the man to bring the Lombardi trophy to Cleveland.” [Dawgs By Nature]

Little bit of tooting our own pieces here, Scott wrote a piece on Eyenga that published late in the day yesterday and you may have missed it. Also, our second piece at Still WFNY published Wednesday on the Cavaliers’ new mascot.

A little more Sugar Bowl love- “I love Cam Heyward. I love how passionate he is about Ohio State. I love that he came back for a chance to win a title. I love how amazingly well he has represented his team as captain and just how classy he was when talking to Rece Davis, Dr. Lou and Snark May about his Herculean effort and his love for Tressel and Ohio State. I love that despite not having the kind of production we all thought he would in his senior season, he saved his best for last.” [Eleven Warriors]

Asking THE question about McCoy, is he the one?- “Now that Holmgren is expected to implement the West Coast Offense, job one will be to get McCoy more familiar with the concept of hot reads and quick throws. It’s an offensive system that demands discipline and precision. McCoy seems to have all the attributes for it, and the WCO doesn’t require a quarterback with a rocket arm, so it’s possible that McCoy has found the perfect situation for his NFL future. I liked what I saw from him in his rookie season – nobody expected him to start, and he showed some good things when he was finally put in that spot.” [Farrar/The OBR]

We don’t know if McCoy is “The One” and probably won’t even after next season. Look how many years it took Drew Brees to become “The One.” That’s why the Browns shouldn’t approach anything as if they’ve found their QB answer. Keep drafting QBs (4th rounders or lower please) every year until you are sure.
My take on McCoy is that he probably is the franchise QB going forward, so long as they keep John St Turnstile off the field.
Barring McCoy looking like DA for the first half of the season, he needs to start the ENTIRE season before we will know for sure if he is our QB of the future. I am interested to see who H & H find to draft in the mid-late rounds as a project.
First time I’ve read an article from Dawgs by Nature but wow… That dude needs a freaking editor. It’s too difficult to read.
But I do like some of his points.
Mark: agree.
Even if McCoy is the guy (and I suspect he is) starters get hurt. Also, promising back-ups can bring serious returns in a trade.
Would be foolish not to exploit Holmgren’s knack for finding these guys.
@ Harv…I hadn’t truly considered the trade value of an “unknown QB” before. I’ve always felt like it was a good idea to keep taking QBs in the middle rounds, but now you’ve made it sound even better.
Imagine being 5 weeks into an 18 game schedule in 2012…
3 teams with playoff hopes have lost their startering QBs and one of them is on their third string QB. And wouldn’t you know it…Ricky Stanzi has been riding our bench for the last year and a half.
Is he any good? Who knows? But he COULD be good. I tell you what Minnesota Vikings…we’ll give you Stanzi for a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick. Deal?
Great point Harv!
All the evidence Harv needs to prove his point is sitting on the bench in Denver.
I just love this. Now that Mangini is out, Grossi has to pick on someone else. Now it comes down to McCoy not having the arm strength to play in cold weather. Give me a break. The kid played like 5 games this year. He’s a rookie from texas who has never playing football in any kind of weather under 60 degrees. Grossi is a joke. Even if McCoy isn’t the franchise QB, he deserves a chance to start a full season and get his licks in before we start another stupid QB controversy.

Dennison, I couldn’t agree more.
