More on Dick Jauron and the Browns: “My source also notes that when Jauron was with the Buffalo Bills, he wanted to acquire Shaun Rogers badly from the Detroit Lions. Jauron really liked Rogers when he had been the Lions’ defensive coordinator. The Bills had the same trade offer on the table that the Browns did for Rogers when Jauron was Buffalo’s head coach, but Rogers ended up coming to Cleveland. Based on the time when Rogers felt like he was stiffed by Eric Mangini, it seems important that Rogers believes his coaches respect him. It sounds like Jauron is the type of guy Rogers would have no problems working under.” [Chris Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature]

Once all the talk regarding Pat Shurmur dies down in Cleveland, the bigger story on the horizon remains the fate of an actual 2011 NFL season. As of now, progress between the NFL Players’ Association and league owners has been reduced to a public relations battle – as each side is clearly preparing for an epic offseason staring contest…Some players are now beginning to entrench themselves for the upcoming battle. Perhaps the most vocal of these player representatives has been the Browns’ Scott Fujita. In the past days, Fujita shared his thoughts with New Orleans’ WDSU. Below is the link to WDSU, along with Fujita’s letter stating his concerns regarding a lockout… [Dave Kolonich/OBR Daily Blog]

How the Browns offensive and defensive philosophies are now going to change: “The Browns we’ve known the past two years are gone. Change started Thursday with the selection of new coach Pat Shurmur. Here’s a taste of what we might expect when the Browns next take the field.” [Tony Grossi/Cleveland Plain Dealer]

Nice gesture but just really odd to be reading this about a coach at college football’s winningest program: “Rodriguez was fired as Michigan’s football coach on Jan. 5, then donated more than 400 items Monday to a Salvation Army store in Wayne, about 15 miles west-southwest of Detroit. On Saturday, the store set up an outdoor tent with a seemingly endless variety of shirts, jackets and hats, auctioning them off to a large crowd of people, many of whom were already wearing Wolverines attire. Maj. John Aren said over 300 bid cards were handed out for use during the auction, and there were about that many people crowded around the tent at the beginning of the event, despite snow flurries and the usual chilly January weather. The Salvation Army made $12,930 off the 161 of Rodriguez’s items that were auctioned off. The rest were put up for sale.” [Associated Press]

Mangini on how he and the Browns took down the Pats and what the Jets need to do for the same result: “The key component for us in our win over the Patriots was our ability to run the ball and have long drives and not have the self-inflicted wounds. The Patriots always are going to find the opponents’ strength and attack it. They always are going to work to make you play left-handed. It’s like: ‘If this is your greatest strength, we’re going to take that away. If you beat us with your second or third thing, fine, but you’re not going to beat us with the thing you do best.'” [Eric Mangini/New York Post]

Eric Mangini’s insight on how to beat New England was amazing. I’m sure Bill B. was shaking in his boots this week. Ugh, sorry Eric but you need more seasoning as a positional coach you are not ready to run the show.
