Backup plans for the Browns’ offensive leader: “Running back Peyton Hillis missed practice for the third straight day Friday with sore ribs and is listed as questionable for Sunday against the Steelers and their No. 1-ranked run defense. ‘I’m still optimistic he’ll be able to play,’ said coach Eric Mangini. ‘I feel pretty good about it, but we’ll see.’ If Hillis is limited during the game, the Browns will rely on Mike Bell and also use Joshua Cribbs in the backfield, both in the wildcat formation and maybe in the regular offense.” [Mary Kay Cabot/Plain Dealer]

Wide-ranging updates on the Browns including this bit on the draft: “Draft Wise: The Browns could finish in the top five or fall to as low as 14. Carolina is 2-13, while three teams are 4-11. There are six teams at 5-10, with four teams at 6-9.” [Fred Greetham/The OBR]

As if Cleveland needed another reminder of how important stopping James Harrison is, here it is with a note from the earlier meeting: “In the first matchup with Cleveland in Week Six, Harrison was exceptionally disruptive, notching 11 tackles and two sacks and a forced fumble. OSU’s hot men’s basketball team ended 2010 with an impressive win at Indiana: “Indiana welcomed the Buckeyes into Assembly Hall in Bloomington today only to have the Buckeyes hang a 85-67 final on them. I hope they play Cribbs in the backfield regardless of Hillis’ status. I really think he could do good things back there. Also, if Hillis is hurting, we need to sit him, He already has a giant bullseye on him, and we don’t need him hurt.
