Schefter: Dallas Cowboys Will Hire Rob Ryan
January 16, 2011About Abandoned Hope and Abated Pride
January 17, 2011While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com.
If you don’t often join us for weekend coverage (and why not?) we’re happy to be back after a crazy Thursday and Friday in which the site was as blank as Tom Brady’s practice schedule this week. We still don’t know 100% what was to blame, some coding problems and we’re not ruling out our old server hosts as being incompetent. That may be harsh. They may know what they are doing, they just weren’t real interested in helping us get back online. Their loss. Others might blame LeBron, or karma, or even Tony Grossi. I’m just not so sure the conspiracy is real. Moving onward.
Do the hopes of Cleveland sports in 2011 rest on the shoulders of Carlos Santana?- “It is completely unfair to place a heavy burden of expectations on a guy who has just 150 big league at-bats to his name and who is coming off an injury. But Santana’s surgery wasn’t invasive enough to lead to major concern about him being ready for Opening Day, and his premier plate discipline is a skill that carries over considerably well.” [Castrovince/Castro-Turf]

Dawg Pound Daily takes a stab at new Browns uniforms. My take- meh. Stripes should be consistent. Three different sets of stripes is just too much on one uniform. [Dawg Pound Daily]

Duron Carter- continuing to make life uncomfortable for dad in Bristol- “As was reported today in the Columbus Dispatch: “The former Ohio State receiver will not be returning to OSU, said Darian Dulin, Carter’s coach at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College. Carter, the son of former OSU star Cris Carter, played for the Buckeyes as a true freshman in 2009. He was ruled academically ineligible for the Rose Bowl and also was held out of 2010 spring practice. Dulin said the reasons Carter is not returning to OSU “are the same as before,” but he didn’t elaborate. Recently, Carter indicated on his Twitter account that Ohio State was not allowing him to return.” [Men of the Scarlet and Gray]

Putting the Browns’ new man to the test- “Have the Browns finally found their Mike Tomlin? Only time will tell. Of course, would Mike Tomlin still be coaching in Pittsburgh if he didn’t have Dick LeBeau as his defensive coordinator?” [Red Right 88]

First the Niners, then the Patriots, then the Jets, now the Eagles are the team we emulate? Will this one stick?- “The Andy Reid’s own coaching tree is growing bigger and bigger by the year. Currently, there are five head coaches who served as assistant coaches under Reid including John Harbaugh (Ravens), Steve Spagnuolo (Rams), Leslie Frazier (Vikings), Ron Rivera (Panthers) and Shurmur. The sixth, Brad Childress, was fired in Minnesota during his past season, but he did take the Vikings to the NFC Championship in 2009.” [Delco/The OBR]

Those uniforms look stupid! I never liked when the cowboys did those colored shoulder pads.
Yeah, but Reid is part of Holmgren’s coaching tree, so I think Mike deserves the credit!
DP makes a good point.
Also, number of Super Bowl wins for the Reid Coaching Tree: Zero, including Reid himself.
please tell me those arent going to be the uniforms. orange numbers look so horrible.
I still don’t know what was wrong with the all-white home uniforms of the 50s and 60s (which are similar to their road unis today). They’re simple and iconic. Then again, I’m all for painting Brownie the Elf on the 50 yard line at Browns Stadium as opposed to the helmet.
