Buckeyes Bolster Defense on National Signing Day
February 2, 2011Cavs’ Streak Hits 22 in Tough Loss to Pacers

Our “Closest to Contention” series continues at Still WFNY– “First and foremost, it is much easier to make the playoffs in the NBA than in the NFL or in Major League Baseball. In the NFL, 10 out of 32 teams make the lauded postseason tournament. This means that in order for the Browns to make the playoffs, they have to be better than 70% of the rest of the league. Sure, there are some oddities, like the Seattle Seahawks making the playoffs this year with a 7-9 record. But the Orange and Brown do not play in the NFC West.” [Rick/Still WFNY]

This should make Browns fans run for the toilet with hand over mouth- “Just seven seasons in, it’s officially time to open the Hall of Fame discussion for Pittsburgh’s franchise quarterback. At 28, Roethlisberger has a chance to go 3-0 in Super Bowls on Sunday when the Steelers play the Green Bay Packers at Cowboys Stadium.” [Walker/AFC North Blog]

Comparing Groundhog Day to Cleveland sports- “As a Cleveland Indians fan, there is something in this portrayal that seems familiar. It is not just the 63 years since the Indians won a World Series title, but the sense that the fates are aligned against the organization. The economy in Cleveland is terrible. The payroll for the team will likely be among the lowest, if not the lowest, in all of baseball. There is no hope of signing marquee free agents in the off-season, and depressingly little at keeping current young players more than a year or two into their free agent years.” [Let’s Go Tribe]

I’m pretty sure 12 teams make the NFL playoffs, right?
Sure that POS can get into the HOF. With a ticket to see the bust of the defense that has been carrying him every…single…year.
Benjamin is clearly a HOF worth QB. If Ray Lewis murdered somebody and he gets in, then Ben trying to get his noodle wet shouldn’t stop him from getting in.
Roethlisberger in the HOF should make humankind run for the toilet. But that’s nothing new. If anything, we’re fortunate that most talented d-bags screw up their playing careers enough to render the conversation moot.
Is getting blown out in the first round of the playoffs really being a contender?
You could argue that it is in football, but I would disagree for basketball.
The criteria I was given was make the playoffs.
#3, I disagree. Not only is he a dirtbag, I don’t think he is even in the discussion of HOF if he didn’t have that defense at his disposal. Even a middle of the road defense wouldnot be able to cover up all the mistakes he makes for the first 3 quarters of a game. He’d be 3 touchdowns behind when the 4Q started.
Plus I hate him. Won’t watch a second of the superbowl because I get nauseous every time I look at him.
@7 – Come on. Almost every quarterback who has one a Super Bowl is a borderline hall of famer, and this guy has a solid chance to win 3 before he’s 30. If Mark Rypien had another ring, he’d be a hall of famer. Phil Simms is borderline because of his rings and he had legendary players on his defense. And he wasn’t as good as Roethlisberger.
#8,
“And he (Sims) wasn’t as good as Roethlisberger.”
You say this stuff as if it is fact. I’d put Sims in exactly the same boat as that other guy. And then tell Sims to watch out if he gets drunk in that boat.
So if the Ravens had won another ring with Dilfer at the helm, you’d put that guy in the hall as well? You are an easy sell. Why don’t we put the steelers special teams guys in there too. They’ve got a couple rings on their hands.
Manning, Manning, Brady, Brees, Rivers, Rogers, Ryan, Vick in no particular order are QB’s I’d take before the steelers QB assuming everything else on the teams are equal. Probably Bradford as well.
So, no, I don’t think the 9-10th best QB of this particular time period gets to go into the HOF. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.
Love people who say they won’t watch a minute of the Superbowl and end up watching every minute.
I know what you mean JM, but I am actually serious. Ask my wife (steelers fan). We got in a good fight 2 weeks ago because I wouldn’t watch the AFC championship game with her. Not one second.
Won’t be watching the SB either. We are having some frinds over to watch with my wife and I’ll be playing with the kids in the basement. I guarantee it. pittsburgh’s QB makes me sick to even look at.
Just for completion sake there, JM, I didn’t watch one minute of it and I loved every minute of not watching.
