While We’re Waiting… More on Tressel, Drafting Sullinger and Ugly Negotiations
March 11, 2011Anyone Else Concerned About “The Fury?”
March 11, 2011Though Cleveland Indians manager Manny Acta was once firmly opposed to social media, the second-year skipper’s Twitter account has become quite the talking point.
Recently featured in ESPN The Magazine, Acta’s microblogging feed has been deemed a must-follow for the “MLB’s most Twitter-friendly team.” Becoming the fourth manager in the big leagues to set up an account on the popular platform, the bilingual Acta (@Mactriber_11) treats followers to live updates from the team’s spring training – like Twitpics of bullpen coach Scott Radinsky driving – as well as his popular “song of the day” or “cancion del dia” for his hispanic followers.
Per front office recommendation, Acta set up an account to help bridge the gap between the team and the fans – an endeavor that has been in full force since last season with the team opening their well-documented Social Media Deck. Acta reportedly tweeted 285 times in his first month and now hopes that more of his players embrace the growing medium.
“If you can’t tell it to the press,” Acta told his players, “don’t put it in a tweet.”
Naturally, fans will recall the infamous incident involving David Huff tweeting about a call-up, only to be replaced by Jeanmar Gomez as the team had not yet made the official announcement.
And for those wondering, today’s song of the day is none other than “She Drives Me Crazy” by the Fine Young Cannibals. You’re welcome.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2011 Cleveland Indians!
Love the post. Good stuff. One minor note about the last line: *you’re welcome* Just thought I’d throw that out there.
love the song choice, lol
THIS IS JUST A WAY TO TRICK FANS INTO FOLLOWING THE TEAM. PUT GOOD PLAYERS ON THE FIELD AND WE WILL WATCH. All sarcasm aside it sounds like a good idea.
@ #1 – yea, but that’d be a hell of a batting average.
Acta is a fantastic dude. Got him to sign a ball for my girlfriend on her birthday, he made me promise him I would take her out for a nice dinner and such as well. I honored his request. He may be the most personable manager in the bigs, and I stand behind him. If his players all perform to their potential, we will contend THIS season. That’s the hardest part for the Tribe, though. Consistency.
