NFL Draft Watch: Robert Quinn Video Evidence
March 8, 2011While We’re Waiting… Buckeye Reactions, Travis Buck and Heat Struggles
March 9, 2011In reference to the alleged reports regarding Jim Tressel and knowledge of player violations, reports are now circulating which state that the Ohio State head coach will be suspended two games and will be fined $250,000.
Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Wetzel – who is responsible for the original report – states that the NCAA can impose additional sanctions on Tressel and the Ohio State football program.
Stay tuned.
(Update 7:10PM: Gene Smith states that Tressel will not be terminated. “Wherever we end up, Jim Tressel is our football coach. All of the speculation about him being terminated is not warranted.”)

I agree with this. The matter is settled and shall never be brought up again.
Of course the writer hosts a show in Detroit Michigan. What a little nark. He better never sow his face in Columbus.
Why is Gordon Gee talking about Tressel’s trip to Iraq and contributing to the school library?
Much less Tressel’s entire response?
Keep spinning those wheels and hope the self imposed sanctions will be enough.
“We should strive to keep thy name
Of fair repute and spotless fame …”
Sing that song, Sweater, sing it.
#2, he definitely is contributing to the school now. 250k can buy a helluva lot of library books.
I’m really delighted he’s staying. He didn’t do anything wrong and the fact tha he suddenly has a dark side after years of a notoriously squeaky-clean image makes him a bit more interesting, in my view. Furthermore, he coached at YSU and as someone from the armpit of Ohio he actually gives me ONE thing to be proud of about my backwater valley, which also produced such winners as convicted former Congressman James Traficant and superstar UFL running back and convict Maurice Clarette.
If the whole “federal investigation” thing checks out, and he was keeping quiet because he was asked to by the feds(as he maintains), then that is pretty legit in my mind. A federal investigation trumps NCAA rules.
I hope the tats those guys got were worth embarrassing their coach and sullying the name of their school over. I don’t care if I ever see Pryor in scarlet and gray again…
How can this be? I thought Tressel was puppies and rainbows and all that is good with the world?
Could it be that he’s just a good football coach and nothing more?
Probably the only thing that would have made his excuse more laughable would have been if he had claimed he was helping OJ search for the real killers.
The best part of this is after showing the press conference they had stories on Cam Newton.
@4 and al bundy!
Who cares? It’s just football players getting free stuff, (duh, winning) and their coach pretending it’s not happening. Are there enough hours in the day for these guys to babysit the players of questionable character AND do all the things that coaching at a high level requires of them? We hear reports how many hours are required of these guys as other elite programs burn out coaches faster than Edison’s first light bulb. Regardless of that, the NCAA has proven in the last few years that they either have no teeth or choose not to, especially as it pertains to the elite revenue generators.
@ 5
I’m just wondering which player(present or former) will Tressel throw under the bus next to save his own hide? What a slimeball..
I never expected him to get fired as he wins by any means necessary(See: Ray Issac, Clarret, Troy Smith etc..). Which is all OSU really cares about at the end of the day.
He was shady then and remains so now.
But I was more amused at the utter nonsense coming out of Orville Redenbacher’s mouth. Clearly, he learned nothing after his “sisters of the poor” comment.
Clay Travis, that you at #2 and 10?
Tressel didn’t throw anybody under the bus here.
And @ #5, the guys on the team didn’t do anything that former players weren’t already doing. They just happened to get caught. Not like they all got in a room together and said ‘hey, y’all – how can we get coach fined?’
Ill take a coach who does 106 and 22 any day over all the do gooders in the world and on this web site!!! He doesnt have to be a yes mam and yes sir softy to get my respect either!!!! Now go blow your noses with really soft tissue while us football MEN laugh at the NCAA trying to jusitfy its puritanical views in a modern world again, and again, and again, and…
I think you can almost guarantee that more sanctions will be coming. I wouldn’t be suprised if Delaney tried to impose some punishment before the NCAA gets a chance a la Slive did to Pearl.
@11 – You don’t like Clay? I figured you of all people would appreciate his witty banter commentary, but I suppose he is a bit too much of a SEC homer.
At least the NCAA can take it from here. The self imposed sanctions are an admission of guilt. Withholding information about ineligible players is likely to draw more ire.
And, @4 – Youngstown is better without you and the eternal pessimists that would rather complain about their town than do something about it.
@ Sam – not a big fan of trolling, or of bad jokes. And, well, those two things are pretty much the entirety of Clay’s wheelhouse. I can deal with SEC homerism, as long as it’s self-aware.
we do have to remember in our pryor hate.. yes he was in the group that got caught, Pittman tweeted that his class was not the first getting “tat hookups”.. just the first to get caught.. IN THE VEST WE TRUST
He got caught big deal let’s move on. Not like the rest of the NCAA is innocent anymore either.
Lol at the “so what, other people do it” comments. Exactly the type of attitude this world needs. Who cares, right? Everyone else does it. What a joke..
Nobody is perfect…that is for sure. I like the Buckeye’s record under Tressel and I am damn sure he has done a lot more good then bad. What I will remember coming out of this situation locally, is the obvious JOY that known Buckeye hater Aaron Goldhammer took covering this yesterday on WKNR.
It’s not what you say Goldie, it’s HOW you say it. What a disgrace…Rizzo will now have to bend over backwards defending him. The funniest part was that Goldie decided he would read a memo describing the self-imposed violations RIGHT OVER THE START OF THE PRESS CONFERENCE!!! Glad I picked WKNR to listen to the press conference coverage – what a joke!!!!!!! Back to Denver, Goldie!
Tressel has way more good than bad in his time as OSU’s coach. He is a stand up guy and did what he thought was best for the team and the players.
So Ohio State is underhanded too big surprise. All of these big school programs are dirty but so is NCAA football. They are all hypocrites as are the ppl who make excuses for them. Just look at that SI article about all the convicts playing. Microcosm of the modern day.
