March 10, 2011While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com.
The all-time leading scorer in NBA history tells WFNY his thoughts on stars teaming up- “It was well-reported that Abdul-Jabbar had two key places in mind for a potential long-term location: his hometown New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Lakers. In the end, the purple and gold were able to come up with the best business offer, but it was the way in which the future Hall of Famer handled the situation that should make Cleveland fans jealous. “I had free agency coming up, and I let the team know that I wouldn’t be staying around, and we were able to work it out where I got to go where I wanted to go and they got to replenish their team,” he said.” [Jacob/Still WFNY]

Valbuena? Progress and depth?- “This spring, Valbuena (thanks to Getty Images for the photo) is vying for a utility infield role off Cleveland’s bench. Jason Donald is the front-runner for the job at third base, Asdrubal Cabrera is locked in at short and Orlando Cabrera is the leading candidate for the regular role at second. That leaves Valbuena fighting for a reserve role. There is also a good chance he winds up playing shortstop for Triple-A Columbus. “We hope that by the end of Spring Training every one of our decisions are tough to make,” Acta said. “That’s what we want. That’s called progress and depth.” [Major League Bastian]

Update on Montario Hardesty- “Rehab is going well,” he added. “I think I have a little bit of work still left to get myself there. I wouldn’t say I’m well ahead of schedule, but it’s coming along great. I just have a little bit of a ways to go before I’m back to 100 percent.” [Cleveland Browns.com]

A look at Cleveland’s defense after the most recent moves- “Bottom line: Most observers think the Browns have to look at the defensive line in the draft with either their first or second pick–or maybe both—especially if there is no free agency before the draft.” [Greetham/The OBR]

Ramon Sessions has a fan- “So, Razor Ramon is completely unraveling before our eyes. In the three games Baron’s played in, Sessions has shot 13-42 from the field and hasn’t been passing the ball terribly well either. He seems to have completely regressed to the Ramon we saw at the beginning of the year. He’s forcing drives, he’s not looking to pass, and he’s killing the spacing. Having Samardo in the starting lineup instead of Jamison makes it easier for teams to collapse on Ramon, so that isn’t helping. Or maybe having Baron outplaying him and looming over his shoulder is throwing him off. Either way, I want this to end. I love Razor Ramon.” [Krolik/Cavs the Blog]

Wouldn’t progress for Valbuena be him actually winning the 2B job and Cabrera being the utility man? Not saying there’s a chance of it happening, but that should be what the team’s goal is for him, not him playing utility.
I saw and read a small part Jacob’s article on RealGM via Plain Dealer without realizing it was a WFNY piece until the line “Abdul-Jabbar told WFNY”…I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to find it was the WFNY I know! Congrats, you guys are famous! haha
Latest mock draft on SI.com has Clemson’s Bowers to the Browns. That would be tremendous. Personally I’d prefer Green or possibly a CB but it sounds like DL will be a strong possibility.
also, Kareem won the Bucks a championship before he left.
I think in football you should build middle out. if we get the best pass rushing prospect in this draft (Bowers), then that will be tremendous.
That’s a great point Ben.
Peterson or Bowers, who ya taking? I cant argue against either really. Both would be tremendous, and without looking at the gaping hole on the DL I think I would choose Peterson… but still I would be ecstatic for either.
