Reasons why Mike Brown’s stock is rising without ever coaching a game this year – So. Beach developments help: “But this isn’t a diatribe about LeBron or Coach Spo. It’s simply a commentary on a ex-Cleveland Cavaliers Coach, and embraced memeber of the Cleveland community, that I think did a much better job all around than anybody ever gave him credit for. Until now maybe, because I have a feeling that he will be the most coveted coach in the NBA carousel this off-season.” [Bowers/Stepien Rules]

The redhead QB, not the cooler from Roadhouse: “TCU quarterback Andy Dalton had an outstanding Pro Day on Friday, elevating his stock to the point where he will likely be drafted in the second round, according to NFL.com’s Gil Brandt. Brandt said Dalton “lit it up” as he completed 49-of-52 of his passes with two of those incompletions being dropped passes…One of the other teams expected to meet with and hold a workout with Dalton is the Cleveland Browns. That makes two quarterbacks — Cameron Newton and Dalton — who the Browns have reportedly scheduled visits with.” [Chris Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature]

A review of Buckeyes pro day: “Some Buckeyes who definitely helped their stocks today were Dane Sanzenbacher, Brandon Saine, Jermale Hines, and Justin Boren. Sanzenbacher ran a 4.48 40-yard dash, faster than his NFL combine time of 4.56, and looked very good during position drills as well. I’m thinking he could be a 4th round pick and I think he will be a steal for whichever team he goes to.” [Alex/11W]

Fallout from Tribe’s first cuts at Spring Training: “Jared Goedert will also be in Columbus, but Lonnie Chisenhall will be in front of him at third base. Probably his best shot of making it to Cleveland will be if the Indians need a short-term fill-in at first base before Nick Johnson is ready to go.” [Ryan/Let’s Go Tribe]

On Kent State being left out of the dance after a brutal loss to Akron: “If the MAC only gets one bid again this year it just reinforces the bias the selection committee shows the big conferences at the expense of some good teams. Schools from the Big Ten, SEC or ACC lose in their conference tournaments and are still selected because of their ‘body of work.’ But when a school from a mid-major conference loses in its tournament, then the regular season has no impact. And people think the BCS is messed up.” [Titus Pullo/Red Right 88]

As important as Jared Sullinger has been for OSU this year, I can’t say I agree with a draft board that puts him No.1 overall and ahead of Kyrie Irving. [The Hoop Doctors via Cleveland.com]

Give me (Cavs) Kemba Walker….130 points in 190 minutes in the Big East Tourny…bad dude
Kyrie, Kemba, Jonas, Barnes>Sullinger. At least in the pros
They ranked Fredette in the top 10! That mock has no value or credibility.

the day that happens, I will completely stop watching sports and take up american idol.
At 5-Mike Brown is great defensively. But man, he cannot coach offensive. At all. Let’s hope he learned something in his year off. I would like to see him write a book about his years coaching the Cavs, I think it would be an interesting read.
As for Andy Dalton, everyone is working him out. Seems like he’s a guy that will go in the 2nd round, but has 1st round potential. And again, I have no problem drafting a QB, you need to always be developing that position.
I dont think its fair to judge Mike Browns ability to coach offense. He was hamstrung by LeBron James. If Quitness wanted to dribble around for 12 seconds and then jack up a 28 footer with a man in his face, he would do that. Ive watched the Heat play several times this season, and late in games, their offense looks a lot like ours from the past couple of seasons. 4 guys standing around watching LeBron dribble.
I agree with the article written by Brendan Bowers, Brown will be a hot commodity and rightfully so. He’s a good coach. Hindsight is always 20/20 and its easy to say this now, but I think the Cavs would have been better off sticking with Brown than to hire Byron Scott. At least if Brown were here, we would still be playing a little bit of defense.
Scott is a smart man who understands the X’s and O’s as well as anyone, but his players quit on him in New Jersey, they quit on him in New Orleans and they pretty much quit on him here. I dont know if he will be here long term, but at this point I dont have a great deal of faith in Scott as the long term answer. We’ll see.
Yea Mike Brown’s Offensive weaknesses were the fault of LeBron James, oooooook. And the Cavaliers quit on Brown and they didn’t have the initials LBJ.
I like Sullinger but he’s not a dominant #1. I’m Leary of him as I am of Irving. Really right now this is a horrible year to have two potential top 10 picks. Go figure.
I think, for the most part, its a toss up between Brown and Scott. And I dont think his players have given up on him, its more of a lack of talent. The Cavs, legitimately, have 4 or 5 D-League boys playing b-ball right now. Let’s see how Scott does with 2 lottery players, Jamison, and Varejao back before we jump to conclusions. And yes, I believe James ball-hogged a bit, but you’re the coach. Take reigns of the team. Scott would have done that with Lebron.
Why does Brown have to either be a great coach or a horrible coach? He may never lead a team to a championship, but he would make a lot of teams better.
