Top Tribe pick impressing from the start-“On Sunday, Drew Pomeranz made his second appearance of the spring for Cleveland, working two shutout innings in a 3-1 loss to Colorado. The 6-foot-5 southpaw struck out three, allowing no walks and no hits. That curveball? It was making hitters look silly. “Me and Belch were talking about it,” said Indians manager Manny Acta, referring to pitching coach Tim Belcher. “When it’s not for a strike, guys won’t even swing at it, because it’s so sharp with a tight rotation. The breaking ball is very impressive.” [Bastian/MLBastian]

More praise for the Tribe youngsters- “Speaking of top prospect lists, the “Big Three”have their top 100’s out, and Kevin Goldstein, Keith Law, and Baseball America all agree that the Indians have at least three of the top 100 prospects in baseball. Lonnie Chisenhall, Jason Kipnis and Drew Pomeranz appear on all three lists. Goldstein and BA both list Alex White as well, and Law has White in his “just missed” article. Law listed 10 players as having just missed the top 100, so for argument’s sake let’s say White is his #105 overall prospect. If you average out the rankings from those three sources (which are universally considered to be the industry standard), you’ll see that the Indians have four of the top 74 prospects in all of baseball according to outside experts with no attachment to the club.” [The DiaTribe]

Joy of cheering against Heat- “But all that is in the past, and I mean it when I say I no longer feel any resentment toward LeBron James — if I ever really felt any resentment. In fact, I have come to a whole different place. I love watching LeBron James play basketball again. My feelings surrounding him have turned back to joy. I LOVE rooting against LeBron James. I don’t mean this in a mean way. I mean it quite literally. I truly love watching Miami Heat games and rooting for them to lose. Thursday night, I passed the kids off to my wife, got a Diet Coke, and settled in front of the TV to watch an NBA game. I cannot TELL you the last year I did that for a regular season game. Sure, I watch plenty of pro basketball games, but only to keep up or to pass the time. Regular season NBA games are not events for me, not ever. But this was an event, a Thursday night game between Orlando and Miami. LeBron has done this for me. In the weirdest way, he has made me care.” [Posnanski/Joe Blogs]

Buckeyes ‘deal with it’ on Senior Night- “It’s tough to see Lighty, Lauderdale, and Diebler playing their final games at Value City Arena. These kids have given so much to this team and it’s been a joy to be able to watch them play out their careers here at Ohio State.” [Buckeye Battle Cry]

Tweet of the day- “Chisenhall: 2b, Hr, and solid D – Pomeranz: 93 – 96. Overpowering for 2 inn’s. COMING SOON… To a ballpark near you.” @Mactriber_11 (Manny Acta)

I’m really enjoying watching the Heat fail again, and again, and again, and again…
I’m not sure its healthy but I’m going to take pleasure in their pain for a little while longer.
Why do we have to watch jason donald or jason nix play third? bring up Chisenhall…NOW!
shhh…as soon as Clevelanders admit they get pleasure from the Heats misfortune, the Sports Gods will remember we can have no joy at all and the Heat will turn it around
enjoy it (as I do) but lets just pretend it doesn’t exist
and oh yeah…..karma is a b*tch
I like cheering for my teams to do well so when the Buckeyes were dropping buckets from the three points line I was happy even while I was s’ing my h at people who were like ‘LOL @ Heat and I hope LeBron has a career ending injury’ because I am an adult even though I like runon sentences.
‘When it’s not for a strike, guys won’t even swing at it’
Wait, wouldn’t we want them to chase after a ball outside of the strike zone? Maybe that’s why I have sucked at baseball all these years…
Yeah, Sam, that one threw me, too. If they won’t swing at bad pitches, is he really pitching that well? I mean, I think the stat line shows he was, and perhaps Acta misspoke. But still. Odd thing to say about a guy who allowed no baserunners.
Have to agree. Watching The Queen and his court lose to the Bulls yesterday was just too sweet. Hearing that Heat players were crying afterwards made me smile even more.
Couldn’t happen to a better team.
