While We’re Waiting…Browns Targeting CB, Tribe Struggles, $30 Beers
April 3, 2011Indians Get First Win of Season Behind Masterson, Triple Play
April 3, 2011The Cavaliers enter tonight’s game at Madison Square Garden with a record of 15-60. At this point last season, they had a record of 60-16. The Miami Heat enter their game tonight across the river in New Jersey with a record of 53-23, unable to match the Cavaliers win total from last season. Cavs fans are familiar with the dangers of using regular season results to project postseason results.
Kenny Roda asked LeBron, in postgame media access on Tuesday, what he thought about the situation of Miami having no chance to match the regular season success he had with the Cavaliers. LeBron shrugged it off and hit the talking points of regular season records not necessarily translating to the postseason, citing failures last season against Boston – he didn’t really care about the comparison of last year’s Cavs and this year’s Heat. And he’s right, he shouldn’t really care.
But yesterday, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! reported that Pat Riley had worked out Eddy Curry and had plans for further workouts with an objective of signing the Chicago fatman.
“Curry’s weight and personal problems have derailed what had been a productive career, and yet Riley has been hopeful Curry could somehow give the Heat a limited inside presence in the postseason. It is believed Curry still weighs more than 350 pounds. One league source listed the probability of Miami signing Curry at “better than 50-50.”
Curry is perhaps the easiest target out there for twitter snark and derision, and the tweets started flying as soon as this report was published. How flawed are the Miami Heat that they have an objective of signing Eddy Curry with less than two weeks to go in the regular season? Riley has tried to play down the significance of the workout since Wojnarwoski’s report went up yesterday afternoon.
We spent so much time over the last few years worrying about how trades would upset the chemistry and rotation balance of what had been extremely successful regular season teams. Imagine the local panic, and national finger-wagging, that would have occurred if, in the same week, the Cavs lost to a team with the worst record in the NBA and Danny Ferry was considering signing a league-wide punchline with 6 games left in the season. Well, that all happened with the Heat this past week.
The Heat are flawed. The Cavs were flawed last year. We can’t compare much beyond that, but it’s interesting to think about how disturbed we all would be if the Cavs were working out Eddy Curry last April for help in a postseason run. Z, Joel Anthony, Jamaal Magloire, and now perhaps Eddy Curry, comprise the Heat’s frontcourt as they head into the postseason. I suppose it’s better to be disturbed about postseason rotations than 15-60 on April 2.

Just exactly how much chemistry did the Cavaliers truly have? Chemistry is an excuse not to be proactive as a GM and I’ll always maintain I’d rather be proactive then reactive.
I think the best reaction to have is “Ha.”
Or maybe “Ha ha.”
Or maybe “BWAAAAAAA-hahahaha-HAAAAAA!”
P.S.: Perhaps it’s time for LeBron to look up the TRUE meaning of the word “karma?”
Said it last year and again now. The Heat have no Center and no bench. And LeBron will not have a ring this year either.
I thought players had to be signed by sometime in March for them to be eligible for the playoffs? Could be wrong
I’m not sure about that either I think they have all the way up to the playoffs.
Yeah, they are probably not going to win it all if Eddy Curry is prominently in your rotation.
@ 4 – players have to be waived by March 1st I believe. That date wouldn’t affect someone who is already a free agent.
Ok, I knew there was some kind of deadline to be able to play in the playoffs for a new team.
Maybe change the title of this post to “Heat Discussion Points”
Anyone else see Curry’s black sports bra in this picture. How embarrassing.
@ 9. Agreed. What did any of this have to do with the Cavs? You just mentioned what the Heat did, and contemplated if the Cavs had done the same thing, what the reaction would be. I dont mind the LeBron stories, I understand why they’re written, but this one was almost completely devoid of relevance to Cleveland.
remind me again why Boston traded Perkins to weaken their biggest advantage over the Heat and help mitigate their biggest weakness against the Magic?
@mgbode, because David Sterns wants Heat-Lakers as the Finals.
