Browns Draft: No need to pontificate about character issues this morning
April 30, 2011Owen Marecic, FB Stanford, he’s on the Browns now too
April 30, 2011By way of the 5th pick in the 4th round, 102nd overall, the Cleveland Browns selected Jordan Cameron, a TE from USC.
After going DT (Phil Taylor), DE (Jabaal Sheard), and WR (Greg Little) with their first three selections, the Browns brass opted too strenghten their TE corp with their fourth pick in this year’s draft.
It initially appears that Cameron will be in the mix with Evan Moore and Ben Watson, who both played well last season, for reps at the position.
As a note on Cameron, he played basketball at both USC and BYU for a time, so maybe he’s the next Tony Gonzalez.
Barring trades, the Browns next selection is the 27th pick of the 4th round, 124th overall, courtesy of Thursday’s deal with the Falcons. Stay tuned.

Maybe we could trick the Saints into thinking they picked him and then get Cameron Jordan instead.
i’m no mind reader, but if i’m H&H justifying this pick instead of plugging bigger holes, I say that I’m not taking an OT or CB here b/c I think Wright and Pashos can have comeback seasons, and if not…2 first rounders in 2012!
Cincy took that guard from GA right before. That killed me. He was the potential development RT we were looking for IMHO
The more I think about it the more I’m talking myself into this pick. Evan Moore is always hurt and Cameron is an excellent athlete so why not? A young dynamic player at any position is a good thing to have.
Don’t forget, we can still use FA to fill some of our other holes.
They are saying on KNR that this kid may be groomed to be a WR. He is 6’5, 250, has good hands and ran something like a 4.59. Some had though he could go as high as 2nd round.
His combine stats are 4.53 40, and he was the top TE in 3-cone drill and 20 yard shuttle.
Casey Matthews went to Philly. Bummer.
Think Rob Gronkowski potential, in the 4th round. Heckert is taking guys he wants, guys he likes, and they’re good football players. Clearly needs, fans’ opinions, media ratings, etc. do not influence how they’re drafting and I love it. Throw the mocks out. Pumped to see who we take next…
A fb/lb combo?
Marecic = new fan favorite
so I’m guessing Vickers is done?
Either Vickers is done or they think Marecic is an LB in hiding.
Browns probably not going to bring Vickers back.
Forget Wildcat. Can anyone see Wildbear; Hillis and Marecic in a split set blowing people up.
I really like the Browns taking players who will play. These guys should all see time on the field which can only make us better.
@tim – lol thats pretty funny…
However, i think we have made some solid selections other than trading our third to move up 6 spots, unless we truly felt that phil would have been off the board…
We need more guys who can spread the feed and more importantly catch the ball, i like the pick and think he can learn from Watson.
@ J
From most of the mock drafts and Chiefs websites I read, Phil Taylor was Kansas City’s guy. Peter King of SI also came out around a half hour before the draft and said that KC was taking Taylor. Either it was just a smokescreen by the Chiefs or Cleveland convinced KC to trade the pick and stole KC’s guy. I feel like Cleveland had no other choice, but to back trade up six spots with the Chiefs.
Also, I was hoping for a TE to be drafted. He could be decent.
The only way I see this making sense is if he is converted into a big, third-down/red-zone wide receiver. We already have TE depth, so otherwise this doesn’t make much sense with WRs and CBs still on the board.
DJ Williams? Nah..please!
I mean this guy is a “project.” If he develops in 2-3 years itll be about the time Watson is done being productive. If he produces sooner, then hes better then what we have apparently.
