While We’re Waiting… Buckeye Spring Practice, an early MLB Draft look, and the Browns’ top draft bust
April 17, 2011Tomlin continues to impress, Indians top Orioles for second straight game
April 17, 2011With the Indians closing up their series against the Baltimore Orioles, they will get their first look at center fielder Grady Sizemore who has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Sizemore will bat lead-off, despite many debates that have taken place over the last two weeks, as Michael Brantley has been given the day off.
Sizemore’s last game was May 16, roughly one year ago, before he was shelved with a left knee injury. His surgery was performed on June 4. He had been batting .211 in 128 at-bats to that point.
To allow for Sizemore’s activation, the team has placed starting pitcher Mitch Talbot on the 15-day disabled list with elbow soreness; the team expects him to miss three-to-four weeks. Coincidentally, this annoucnement comes just 36 hours after the team announced Talbot being “pushed back” in the rotation to allow Fausto Carmona to start on schedule this Sunday. Either Talbot did something to his elbow between Friday evening and Sunday morning, or media/fans were blatantly lied to once again. You be the judge.
The Indians will be forced to make another roster move this week when a fifth starter is needed. Potential call-ups include Columbus Clippers Jeanmar Gomez and David Huff. Gomez last pitched on April 14, making his next scheduled start conveniently falling on Tuesday. Huff, however, is pitching on Sunday, making his call-up unlikely. Speculation is that outfielder Travis Buck would be optioned to Columbus to clear space.

ok so brantley with a day off today and grady in the lead-off spot is ok by me, but will they leave grady at the top when brantley is in the lineup?
Hmm…Talbot’s numbers against the Angels on April 11 (our only win against them): 8.0 IP, 4 K, 5 H, 2 BB
He was very dominant, and this move makes me worried. Is he really injured or is it, as they say, just a lie from the Indians? I think it’ll be Gomez’s start.
@ Scott — ESPN.com is reporting that Brantley will start in LF: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6375010
The fact that Talbot is out 3-4 weeks makes me think it is legit injury…hopefully Gomez can step right in and keep it going.
What the hell happened to Talbot? This sucks, “The Fury” was pitching really well.
I hope Gomez gets the call up instead of Huff.
Cant say that Im happy about Grady leading off either. Dont get me wrong, Im glad to see him back, but Sizemore strikes out way too much to bat lead off. Hes the left handed Alfonso Soriano.
Ok, Im done b*tching. Lets go Tribe! Sweep the Birds!
@ GhostToMost — For what its worth, Gomez has higher abilities than Gomez in MLB2K11. 🙂 So, I am in agreement with you.
Wow, woops — Gomez has higher abilities than Huff…sorry.
oribiasi – first, that’s an AP report merely hosted on ESPN’s wire. second, I assume that that’s on a going forward basis as Brantley will in fact move to left field when the two are playing at the same time. Sunday, however, Travis Buck is playing in left and will bat seventh.

Or… and just hear me out on this… they didn’t know the extent of the injury at first until some medical tests were run. Crazy thoughts, I know. But it’s possible that Talbot reported a little elbow soreness early in the week, they bumped back his start, ordered tests, and when they came back… DL time.
Matt S, that’s my thought as well.
Welcome back Grady! Home run in his second at bat.
