June 22, 2011While We’re Waiting… Valanciunas and Howard, Pryor’s Chances, and Meeting Omar
June 23, 2011Finally, some good news for third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall. The Chiz, who has not played since he was injured with a concussion sliding into–ironically–third base on June 11th, was activated from the Clippers’ disabled list today and is expected to play tonight against Toledo.
Chisenhall, 22, who has struggled a bit both at the plate and in the field this season, saw his year take another bad turn when he suffered the concussion. The team kept him out of the lineup day-to-day, and when his symptoms didn’t improve they finally placed on him on the DL last week.
So far this season, Chisenhall is hitting .250 in 60 games with five home runs and 30 RBI. His .734 OPS has been disappointing, to say the least, and he also has seven errors in 54 games at third in the field with a .953 fielding percentage.

He’s no Super Mannahan in the field, that’s for sure. Maybe we’ll give him a look soon. His batting stats, no matter how bad, cannot be worse than Austin Kearns’.
@Andrew – I don’t think we can bring him up unless we are ready to hand him the keys to 3B. We don’t want to stifle his development by having him ride the pine.
Honestly, because of how they are doing this year, I would think we’d want to bring up our old friend, Luis Valbuena. If for nothing else than as a showcase for teams that might want to trade for him.
We can all agree that Austin Kearns can retire now though. Unless Seattle is interested in helping take him off our hands. We’ll accept a singleA player who will never make it out of the rookie league. Sound good Seattle? Seattle? Hello?
I love the fact that one of yesterday’s article related to overreacting via social media after a single baseball game but after last night’s 9th inning rally collapse everyone (including myself) is calling for Kernie’s head. Btw, I’m still in awe how that article turned into an attack on the spanish language…
Something tells me if Seattle sees Cleveland on the caller ID they let it go to voicemail.
@Ben – you would think so, but how many times have they traded for Russell Branyan now? I think Shapiro decided to sign him last year just so he could get an extra prospect from them.
