June 9, 2011Seven Reasons Not to Give Up Hope for the 2011 Indians

Forecasting demise? Not yet. “The Indians made it clear from the start this year that they needed three things to happen in order to have success. Cleveland needed its roster to stay healthy, its young pitchers to take a collective step forward in their development and its hitters to play to their full potential.
Each of those areas has absorbed some blows. Losing Sizemore for two stretches hurt, as did seeing Travis Hafner land on the DL. The DH should be back within the next two weeks, if all goes according to plan. The well-documented struggles of Choo and Carlos Santana have hindered the offense as well.
Is the worst-to-first season over? Not by a long shot. In fact, the Indians are still in first place in the AL Central.” [Bastian]

Bismack Biyombo, come on down: “Athletically, Biyombo is almost as good as they come. He has great hops and not just in his first jump – his second and third jumps are as energetic and aggressive as his first. This enables him to finish with thunderous dunks after rebounds and block second-and-third attempts if his opponent regains the ball. He also runs the floor very well, showing that he’s a smooth athlete in addition to an explosive one.” [Cavs the Blog]

And finally…When it rains, it pours: “In the 48 hours since I reported [the] revelations, I’ve learned of an additional, stand-alone operation that Talbott has used to sell Ohio State football memorabilia. Talbott calls the business, which is unregistered in the state of Ohio, Varsity O Memorabilia.
A current “Varsity O Memorabilia” Facebook page, last updated in April, features some of the product procured by Talbott over the years from dozens of Buckeye football and basketball players. Many of the items seen signed in the Facebook photos came from then-current Ohio State players like Terrelle Pryor and Ted Ginn, Jr. […]
That’s precisely the reason why he was – finally – cut off from those high profile Ohio State athletes and placed on blacklist by OSU athletic department officials I’ve confirmed as reservd for those officially disassociated from the program.” [SportsbyBrooks]

Talbott adamantly denied buying Pryor’s autographs in the Plain Dealer this morning. Somebody’s got a lot of brass.
I wouldn’t blame any collegiate athlete if they never signed another autograph ever.
I’m sorry, but that article about OSU says nothing. Millions of electrons are spent showing presumably incriminating photos of a bunch of Buckeyes signing stuff, but not a single photo of a check or cash changing hands. When those photos show up, we’ll have dramaa. Right now, the only drama here is the drama itself.
Spoelstra asked LeBron if he had change for a dollar, but he could only give him 3 quarters.
good mailbag from Bastian, but I have one issue.
he says our starting pitchers need to avoid the DL because we don’t have depth without mentioning Alex White is already on the DL (until a later question) and Carrasco and Talbot were earlier.
that has been the biggest surprise to me this season is that despite having SP injury issues, we have been able to use our pitching depth to continue to get good outings. and we haven’t even brought up McCallister yet (who he also mentions later).
minor point but it bugged me.
@ Garry – I’m like dedicating my life to just answering things you say. We’re *so* besties! Anyways, that’s what Brooks does.
@ Denny:
If that’s what Brooks does, why even discuss it? It ain’t worth discussin’.
I always wanted a brother (or at least someone who would dedicate their entire life to answering my questions). Sweet.
