Though the National Basketball Association is in the midst of a lockout, the Cleveland Cavaliers continue to make internal strides, announcing today that Wes Wilcox will be general manager of the team’s Canton D-League Franchise.
Deciding on the city of Canton just one week prior, the still-to-be-named NBDL franchise will be headed by a longtime member of the Cavaliers organization. Joining the Cavaliers during the 2003-04 season, Wilcox has served as the team’s advance scout, pro and college scout before being promoted one year ago to his current role as director of pro player personnel.
Over the past four seasons, Wilcox had also served as the team’s liaison with their respective Development League affiliates making this promotion a very seamless transition.
“I am extremely thankful for this unique opportunity to have a leadership role in building a special franchise in the city of Canton,” said Wilcox in the team’s press release. “Our organization places a very high value on player development as part of our culture and we are committed to building a successful environment both on the court and in this community. I’m excited to be a part of that and we look forward to earning the support of our fans here.”
Wilcox will maintain his current role with the Cavaliers in addition to his new responsibilities and will address the media later today in Canton.
