Game Three Open Thread: Browns vs. Miami Dolphins

Coming off their first win of the season, the Browns return home to face the 0-2 Miami Dolphins.  They will have to get their first home win of the season without their offensive leader, Peyton Hillis, who was ruled out this morning with strep throat and a fever. Montario Hardesty will get the call with Armond Smith backing him up.

With Brian Daboll returning, there’s plenty of motivation for Browns players on the offensive side of the ball, particularly quarterback Colt McCoy, whose rocky relationship with Daboll was detailed by Mary Kay Cabot this morning.  Even with Hillis out, the Dolphins D has been torched in the first two weeks of the season and this game is a great opportunity for Colt McCoy to put up some numbers. While he’s not Tom Brady or even Matt Schaub, Colt should be able to connect for some big plays, with a home win absolutely still within reach.  The Browns are still 1.5 point favorites.  For our preview, check out our regular friday “Browns Will Win If..” feature for the Miami game.  Leave your thoughts and comments here as the afternoon develops.

And that’s what you’ve got to love in a qb – cajones with the game on the line. Really stunk it up all day – missing huge plays to Cribbs and Watson, so many unforced bad throws – but steps up with the game on the line.

This game showed how clueless this team is in some areas but there were positives:
    - welcome Montario. feel free to use him with peyton now, Shurmer.
    - Sheard getting better every game.
    - Joe Beast. Can’t do much better v. Marshall, and he did it in man coverage all day, with little pressure on Henne.
    - Peyton gets a week to rest and we still grab a W.

HUGE win. Without Hillis…McCoy leads the last minute comeback after playing poorly all game.

    HUGE.

The defensive line might be the best in the entire league next year; if LB’s are addressed in the draft/offseason the whole D is scary good.

The offense continues to be horribly inconsistent but a win is a win.

Very happy with the win! I wasn’t able to see the game. How did Hardesty look? The numbers were pretty good but those can be deceiving.

@Mark: I thought Hardesty looked like a legit second round pick. Take away a bad 8 or 9 yard loss on a very slow developing hand off that Miami blew up and his stats would be better. Showed some explosion, moves and crucial hands on a 4th down catch on the winning drive. What’s not to like.

Thanks Harv, that’s the type of feedback I was looking for. I really liked Hardesty in college and thought he’d do well for us. A big dose of Hardesty and Hillis will good a long way in improving this team.
