Tribe Bats Come Alive in Minnesota
September 18, 2011Browns vs. Colts – First Half Report
September 18, 2011It was a brutal week one loss but as Browns fans, we’re used to losing the opener (although this was a particularly original and inventive way to go about that). The Colts, however, are not used to being throttled in the their opener. Even more rare is the 0-2 start – something they have not experienced since Peyton Manning’s rookie year. Of course, Manning and his janky neck are the cause for these woes and concern – just this morning, the NFL Network morning show debated whether the Colts were the worst team in the league (a couple “experts” opined that the Browns were). It’s a crucial game for both teams trying to avoid an 0-2 record. See our weekly “Browns Will Win If…” feature for our keys to the game and leave your thoughts and comments here as the afternoon unfolds.

Dear Montario:
Yes, we all know you could do some damage now, what with the whole defense cheating toward Hillis. But the NFL is a little more sophisticated than that. Please consider these practice week tips:
-Your coach’s name is Shurmer, not “Tumor.”
– There is no such thing as a neutral comment when discussing the weight of Holmgren’s grandchildren.
Try it again. Hope to see you next week. Oops, there you are!
p.s.: never mind.
1st and goal from the 5…no hillis…no hillis on the field for the first two plays.
I just don’t get it.
“WHAT A GENIUS TIME TO BRING IN HARDESTY…THE COLTS WILL TOTALLY EXPECT HILLIS ON A 1ST AND GOAL SITUATION, YEAH, I’LL GO WITH THE GUY WHO HASNT SEEN THE FIELD ALL DAY”
this is the voice inside our coach’s head and it is frightening.
@CBus
Great minds.
Where can I mail a list of the Browns strong points to Shurmer?
@Christopher: fear the overthinking rook coach. Hope Hillis had a charleyhorse or something, or where was the deception?
Marecic? Pfft. Vickers would have taken it to the hopuse.
Let’s see Vickers make that catch. Nice job Marecic.
THAT is why vickers is gone.
And Owen gets stuffed. My love is withdrawn.
I like how Hillis is still gentleman enough to go and find the ball to hand it back to the ref.
That Robo block was the most useful play of his career.
The Colts fans are booing. I find that humorous and upsetting at the same time. Anyone else feel like the Colts fans should cut the team a little slack? They don’t have the best player in the teams history on the field.
We’d be 2-0 if we had Brad Maynard last week.
i’m confused by this game. we didn’t play our best & still won. Are we really watching a Browns game?
/I know Manning didn’t play, let me enjoy this anyways
this is my first comment on this thread, but…
Did anyone else laugh out loud at the pictures of the kid Colts fan with his head on the seat in front of him?
My first thought was, “Welcome to the real world, you little punk. This is what life is like.”
my intial grades:
d-line: C. Little pressure on a hundred year old stationary qb, ok v. run. Rooks looked decent.
LBs: awful. Can’t anybody read a play and attack?
QB: B. Colt seemed to settle down by the second quarter.
WR’s: awful. No slants, against this defense? The safeties don’t even bother and watch Peyton.
Peyton: what they’re doing to him is unfair. He won’t make it past week 8 if they give him no break.
Coaching: D. You have to do something to get the safeties away from Peyton. Moore deep? something? Montario sits until a crucial goalline possesion and alone in the backfield? I could not differentiate these drives from what Daboll threw out there. Is our personnel so bad that options are only Hillis run, screen or pass?
Harv:
Agree for the most part.
DL: Don’t forget the d-line (Sheard) did get the “sink the 8-ball” play w/ the strip sack.
QB: Agree: Colt needs to start stronger. I thought all these West Coast guys gave the QB’s a script of the 10 best plays to run at the start of the game. We need a new script.
WR: Awful. The words toy write after that are wasted.
Peyton: He’s young. You have to give him his carries early so he can do what he did to day late. Plus, he was well rested from last week.
Coaching: I HATE that throwback screen action. Throw that page away.
@Sub: I thought the same thing… kid’s been spoild with Manning, just wait until he’s gone kid.
Thank goodness for the Peyton-less Colts in week 2. A win is a win take 1-1 and be happy but the lack of talented depth constantly shows.
@62 – Johnny Unitas has been dead for a few years. He also hasn’t played for the franchise since well before they left Baltimore. Of course he’s not on the field for them.
Oh, you meant Manning? Yeah, he’s not bad, too. NFL MVP this year.
