“If you look at the team’s conservative approach to the roster since the lockout ended, it’s clear this season is more about the future than the present. And a team that’s spent 12 years now looking for a real answer at quarterback appears to be pretty darn close to all-in, at least for now, on a guy who got more experience than anyone expected as a rookie and wants desperately to be the long-term answer. McCoy is 25, carries himself like he’s 35 and seems have command of the offense. He doesn’t have a bunch of stud receivers — probably not even a bunch of No. 2 receivers, comparatively speaking — but he has guys he knows, and he has a few with unique skill sets in Evan Moore, Joshua Cribbs and Greg Little. McCoy needs game experience, still needs to prove to opposing defenses he can make them pay for creeping too close to the line of scrimmage and needs to stay healthy and upright; he’s going to take some shots from much bigger defenders, and he’s going to try to make plays on the run. That’s always been a strength of his game. Add it all up and there’s at least some reason to believe he can be The Guy the Browns have been waiting on. ” [Jackson/FSO]

On four -man rotations- “Maybe it’s time to let somebody finish the thought. For those who dare question rote pitcher usage – who gag at the New York Yankees’ six-man rotation and twitched upon seeing its use with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, too – the four-man is begging to be implemented. Going with four regular starters who pitch on four days’ rest and using a fifth starter as the schedule dictates – with him otherwise serving as a swingman in a long-relief role – doesn’t only give a team the flexibility necessary to keep it from carrying up to 13 pitchers. It actually lets their best pitchers pitch more.” [Passan/Yahoo]

Former Browns RB shows off speed- “They say that running back is a position that requires functional speed, but former Cleveland Browns back Chris Jennings(notes) took that idea just a bit too far on Sunday morning — he was pulled over in Guernsey County, Ohio, for traveling 147 mph in a 65 mph zone. Jennings was driving a 2004 BMW, which must make the BMW folks happy.” [Shutdown Corner]

“But this does not mean there won’t be another breakout fantasy player for the Browns this season too. Rookie wide receiver, Greg Little, looks to be this player as long as he can dust off the cobwebs after not playing football for a full year in his senior season with North Carolina (due to suspension). He has the talent and abilities to create mismatches with linebackers, cornerbacks and safeties and he could quickly become McCoy’s favorite target. Also, with the Browns’ receiving group needing someone to step up and become a No. 1 receiver, Little is on the perfect team to make this happen.” [Wolf/National Football Authority]
