On the day before OSU’s first game, news broke that former head coach (that still sounds strange) Jim Tressel has accepted a position with the Indianapolis Colts as a gameday consultant. This writer wishes him the best of luck in his NFL endeavors. Here is an article from Dr. Saturday about the hiring, ” The ousted Buckeye head coach is heading to the NFL to serve as “a game-day consultant”for the Indianapolis Colts. His job will be “primarily as a consultant on replays,” according to Colts head coach Jim Caldwell,”which will allow the other coaches to focus on their individual jobs” without being distracted by replay decisions. Well, everybody’s gotta start somewhere.” [Dr. Saturday]
Speaking of OSU football, it’s that time again! The guys at Eleven Warriors have an in-depth preview of today’s game against the Akron Zips. “Since Jordan Hall is out for the opener, it’s going to be extremely interesting to see who ends up being the focus of the offense on Saturday. My personal inclination is that the team is going to lean heavily on guys like Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith, but a lot of that is predicated on what Jim Tressel would do, not necessarily what Luke Fickell will do. Though Joe Bauserman and Braxton Miller are officially listed as co-starters, recent comments by QB coach Nick Siciliano make it clear that this week is simply a continuation of the battle that took place throughout August. I’ve got a feeling that in lieu of Jordan Hall, Jake Stoneburner is going to be their best friend on Saturday. [Eleven Warriors]
Tony at IPI was down in North Carolina this week as the Kinston Indians played potentially their final game in Grainger Stadium Friday night. The outcome was not pretty. “The game on Friday night was fan appreciation night and the final regular season game at historic Grainger Stadium. The K-Tribe hopes to extend life at the ball park by making a run into the post season and compete for the Mills cup. A playoff berth would guarantee at minimum one more game in Kinston. 5,203 fans turned out for the historic game, the largest attendance figure of the year.” [Indians Prospect Insider]
The Browns will be making roster moves today. Chris at Dawgs By Nature has his picks for the 53-man roster. Chris also has some quotes from Pat Shurmur’s postgame press conference regarding guys on the roster bubble.
