Zydrunas Ilgauskas Should Throw a Retirement Party in Cleveland, and Invite Cavs Fans
October 1, 2011While We’re Waiting…Buckeyes Lose 10-7, Colt Preps For Titans
October 2, 2011During Shaun Smith’s final days in Cleveland he allegedly punched Brady Quinn in the face, got cut eight months later, and on his way out the door he reportedly entered into some sort of altercation with then D-Line Coach Bryan Cox.
Last year he may or may not have been involved in some below the belt cheap-shotting as well, directed at Browns Center Alex Mack, who he decided to put on blast earlier today in an article with Jeff Wyatt from the Tennessean.
This from the Smith, who will be coming in with the Titans tomorrow to square off against your Cleveland Browns, via The Tennessean:
As he heads back to Cleveland, where he ignited plenty of controversy during his days with the Browns, Smith is stirring things up again. This time his target is Browns center Alex Mack, the 21st overall selection of the 2009 draft.
They butted heads that offseason and in training camp before the Browns released Smith. They also squared off in a memorable battle last season when Smith was with the Chiefs.
“During his rookie year, I used to tell him he should give his money back. I used to tell him he wasn’t worth a first-round pick,” Smith said. “It’s nothing personal or anything like that. That’s just how I felt.”
So what did Mack have to say about that?
“He didn’t say nothing,” Smith said. “I mean, I was kicking his (butt) the whole camp and I had a good game when we played them last year.”
Smith acknowledged Mack is “pretty good, a decent player” and called him “a good guy.”
Chances are Mack, who went to the Pro Bowl last year, doesn’t think as highly of Smith. Mack accused his former teammate of “grabbing his private parts” during their meeting last season.
“You can’t believe everything you hear,” Smith said on Friday. “The league sorted it all out — no fine.”
Still, Smith said he has fond memories of Cleveland. He’s looking forward to going back and saying hello to the folks in the Dawg Pound.
“My career got off to a better start in Cleveland. That’s when I became a full-time starter,” he said. “Now I was a little bitter when they let me go because of the situation with the new regime, but I look at everything as funny now because (Mangini), and the situation with Brady Quinn, they aren’t there any more either.
“So to me, I got the best of it. I got the last laugh at the end of the day.”
Ahh, but the day hasn’t ended quite yet Mr. Smith. The DawgPound will be looking forward to greeting you tomorrow as well, sir, and I think Alex Mack just might have something for you too. So how about we hold off on tallying up those “last laughs” until at least Monday at the soonest. Go Browns.

Not personal? It doesn’t get much more personal than that…
Here’s hoping I don’t hear Smith’s name at all on Sunday…
I think Mack should wear his Pro Bowl jersey and just pay whatever fine that would be. I’m pretty sure the only way Smith will ever see a Pro Bowl is the same way I see it, on TV.
How did get the last laugh if he was cut?
Man… A Mack cut-block and a blown up knee for Smith seems fitting here. You just can’t run your mouth when you are in the trenches, Shaun. Somebody will hurt you.
Not smart to run your mouth before playing Mack and the boys, Shaun. Just not smart.
@Subadai- Nope. Wrong.
Not hoping for any injuries…just hoping Mack dominates him for all 60 minutes…and that we can run up the middle at will.
All I’m saying is that it’s ugly in the trenches. That is why big guys don’t talk much if at all. He better watch himself. Nobody in the stadium is gonna shed any tears if he gets himself carted off.
smith wont last 4 quarters
Who cares about Shaun Smith. Pity The Tennessean reporter who drew the short draw:
“Go get something from Shaun Smith about the Browns.”
“Who’s Shaun Smith?”
“Fat lineman. Kind of Warren Sapp without the talent.”
“Ohhh, you mean Most Likely to File Bankruptcy Before He’s Out of the League.”
“Bingo.”
@Harv 21 i i could like your comment i would.
Sorry, meant: @Harv 21 if i could like your comment i would.
My bad.
Maybe a good Peyton Hillis Stiff arm will be good for him
What happened to class? What kind of respectable athlete says something like that in an interview? Embarrassing. I look to Browns to double and triple team him. Not because he is that good, but because then they can put him on his back. He isn’t a good player, hes just a big body to plug up holes. The battle in the trenches are personal this week, ought to be a lot of fun to watch!
Battle of two of the worst WR corps in the league
