What We’re Thankful For…
November 24, 2011While We’re Waiting… Antonetti’s Gamble, Hardesty’s Return and LeBron’s Homecoming
November 25, 2011One of the things I am most thankful for at Thanksgiving is knowing that I get all those holiday movies back in my life. I don’t know if it is because of the Christmas holiday itself or whether the movies are really just more enjoyable, but there are a lot of awesome Holiday movies.
No, I’m not talking about Jingle All the Way. No, I’m not talking about Michael Keaton as a snow man in Jack Frost. I don’t know anyone who has actually watched Surviving Christmas where Tony Soprano battles Ben Affleck. And speaking of Affleck, I will gladly watch Reindeer Games, but I don’t really consider it a Christmas movie.
For me, it means Home Alone and Elf as more typical holiday movies. For the more atypical movies I get Gremlins which holds up surprisingly well considering its lack of great special effects. And totally off the beaten path I have one of the last movies that I really liked Nic Cage with The Family Man.
Those are just my favorites though and the list isn’t nearly complete. I went to the rest of the WFNY guys to get their favorites. Christmas Vacation, Muppet Christmas Carol, Scrooged, Bad Santa, The Family Stone and The Holiday all came up. Obviously, nobody around here needs to even mention A Christmas Story.
So other than obvious classics like Miracle on 34th Street or It’s A Wonderful Life, what movies are you looking forward to watching this season?

Die Hard. Best xmas movie ever!
I’m looking forward to taking the kids to the new Muppet movie. They started watching the old tv show on DVD and really loved it. I caught some clips of the new movie online and it looks pretty good.
As a kid I remember every Thanksgiving watching the original King Kong on channel 43 (I think). I’d lay down on the couch, having played football with friends and eaten two meals, and just veg out watching the old classic. Its a very good memory.
Scrooged and National lampoon’s Christmas Vacation are My top two, followed by A Christmas Story and Home Alone (the original).
Not a Holiday movie per se, but “The Ref” (Denis Leary, Kevin Spacey) is set during the holidays and is another one of my favorite comedies.
Not a holiday movie, but “War Horse” which will be released on Christmas looks excellent.
And while this is also not a holiday movie, has anyone seen Hitler and Browns? I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard. Only a true Cleveland fan can appreciate:

Home alone, Elf, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story…and for kicks I have the SNL Christmas DVD (Chris Farley’s Matt Foley character playing Santa Clause is classic stuff).
