You knew this would happen of course- “The Red Sox are looking for a right fielder to replace J.D. Drew. Yesterday, Grady Sizemore became an intriguing option that the Sox are expected to explore, according to a team source. The highly talented but oft-injured Sizemore has played his entire career as a center fielder for the Cleveland Indians, but to re-establish his Gold Glove (two) and Silver Slugger (one) credentials, he is willing to move to a corner outfield spot on a new team if the fit is right, his agent said.” [Silverman/Boston Herald]

Like we’ve said before, it’s the megastar players that are driving the players’ bus- “Every one of the seven NBA players who I contacted over the past two days has made two things clear: The players want to play ball, and they’re willing to take a 50-50 split of basketball-related income (BRI) to make it happen. Mostly, they seem ready to vote on the issue and avoid missing paychecks. I connected with the players this week, either via phone conversation or text. While they represent a small percentage of the union, four claimed they know of other members who share their desire to end the lockout. Tuesday was supposed to be the start of the regular season, “and guys are getting antsy,” one player said. “We’re ready.” [Amico/FSO]

More on the trouble in the players’ union- “Rest assured, there’s a vast gulf in the union, and it’s growing with the passing of every day. Players Association president Derek Fisher’s(notes) letter to the players convinced no one otherwise. NBA commissioner David Stern and the owners know it, and it’s part of the reason they won’t raise their offer of the BRI revenue split to 51 percent. There are system issues that need to be resolved for players, but this deal gets done at 50-50, and that’s been true for a long, long time. In the end, there are two courses for the union: Take the deal largely on the table or blow this up, decertify and lose the season fighting the NBA in the federal courts.” [Wojarowski/Yahoo]

Some have asked about DP’s Blue Jackets coverage. YOu can find his Blue Jackets writings over at The Cannon- “The other night after defeating the Anaheim Ducks, defenseman James Wisniewski casually dropped a pearl into his postgame comments about having a personal goal of seeing the team get back to .500 by Christmas. Wizmas. Either way. So, while this club certainly cannot allow themselves to look that far ahead–if ever there was a team that needed to adhere to the coach-speak of “one game at a time,” it’s this one–we here at The Cannon certainly can look that far ahead.” [DP/The Cannon]

Finally, if you haven’t seen the video of Kevin Durant playing flag football, it’s a fun story. [Ball Don’t Lie]

There are too many NBA players living paycheck to paycheck… I think they’ll get a deal done soon now that the players are starting to miss the money. This doesn’t mean I take the players side in the argument though… I actually think they deserve about 52 or 53 percent of the BRI.
As for Sizemore… replacing JD Drew seems like a good fit. Both guys have nice bats when they’re healthy, but neither hit as well as they did early in their respective careers. Both guys have mediocre arms in right field. Neither will play more than 100 games in a season ever again.
If the Red Sox in fact intend to offer a contract anywhere near what this Herald writer suggests Grady certainly wouldn’t consider what the Indians are thinking.
But I’m not sure Grady is suited for Fenway’s right field. It has the short Pesky Pole but then fans way out to those funky deep corners. It requires strong, accurate throws, not Grady’s loopers and short hops to the cut-off man.
