January 17, 2012Indians Agree to One-Year Deal with RP Joe Smith
January 17, 2012The Cleveland Indians have reportedly avoided arbitration with third baseman Jack Hannahan.
Per MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian, the deal is said to have been for one season and is to be worth $1.135 million. Per released arbitration estimates, Hannahan was set to receive approximately $1.3 million for 2012.
In 110 games in 2011, Hannahan hit .250 with a .331 on-base percentage, but hit .296 with an OPS of .811 against left-handed pitching. Of all players in MLB with at least 800 innings of play, Hannahan was sixth in terms of UZR (8.7) and did not have an error throughout the entire second half of last season. He is expected to share time with Lonnie Chisenhall at third base in 2012.
Six Cleveland Indians’ players still remain eligible for arbitration.

Hannahan is a great defender. Hopefully Chisenhall mashes so hard that we don’t care how great Hannahan can pick it at 3rd.
I was hoping they would re-sign Hannahan, very excited about having him back I think he brings a lot to the ballclub.
