Mike Brown: They Have Something Special in Cleveland

We miss the people back in Cleveland. We have some great friends back there; our boys had a terrific experience and they still haven’t quite been able to call L.A. home. [...] The way it happened, it happened and I’m okay with that. Dan Gilbert was terrific for me. He gave me an opportunity, and I appreciate that. I believe that Chris Grant is the right guy to lead that franchise in the direction it needs to head and Byron Scott is doing a fantastic job. The kid Kyrie Irving is going to be a special player. And when you mix the young guys like Kyrie in with some of the veterans there that have been there and have had a chance to experience what winning is all about and you can have a nice team. A guy like Anderson Varejao, a guy like Anthony Parker; Daniel Gibson; Antawn Jamison, even though we weren’t there together for a long time; those guys know how to win, they’re pro’s pros. Guys who, when are off the floor, you want to get to know as people.  They can have something special [in Cleveland] because you have the right mix of veteran players still around.

He didn’t need to say any of that.  It says a lot that he felt compelled to mention Cleveland at all right now.

Nice work putting some cohesive sentences together Mike.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPb2nZPxffU

It helps the Lakers are playing the Cavaliers but Mike Brown is probably a great guy it’s just a shame his first head costing job had to be here. Those teams needed a veteran head coach but oh well.

Not sure that’s true. We needed to be tougher and make LBJ respect the system, but all reports are Brown’s hands were tied in that regard.

He’s a good man. I hope he does well there.

Ive never been a fan of MB as a coach. With that said he is an A+ individual and went beyond what he needed to say. He didnt have to say any of that and he did. To us Clevelanders that means a lot.

you’re sportin Kobe’s jersey number, and he’s a huge Coach Brown fan, which i think speaks volumes.

as far as his coaching ability, while it’s only been 12 games, just look how well he’s got them playing defense over there:PPG:  89.8 down from 95.4opp FG%:  41.6 down from 43.7they were already a great rebounding team, but after losing L.O they’ve actually improved, currently #1 in the league in rebounding.  as far as the offense, now that’s another story.. but as always, he has focused on defense and it’s already starting to make a difference for them..  6-2 since Bynum back.but yeah, he’s always been a class act so of course when he’s on Cleveland radio he will give some shoutouts.. it’s still surreal to me that he’s now the coach of the Lakers, but he deserves it.  Defense wins Championships!  .

the 24 is for Grady not Kobe haha

I expected him to get that defense straightened out which he has so ill give him credit for that. He certainly is a very solid coach but im just not a big fan of his. I wish him all the luck in the world and if he wins a championship ill be very happy for him

I’m not sure how anyone who can view beyond the surface isn’t a big fan of Mike Brown. As said above, his hands were tied when it came to disciplining Lebron. He was never given a truly talented surrounding cast, yet he got so much out of those team.
