January 15, 2012While We’re Waiting… Kyrie Irving a Cause for Excitement, and Tribe Making a Tough Call
January 16, 2012With the ongoing endeavor to make Progressive Field a year-round place for Clevelanders to spend their leisure time, the Cleveland Indians say that a mild early winter has put a bit of financial crimp in the second edition of “Snow Days,” the team’s winter wonderland of sorts which is housed within the confines of the city’s baseball venue.
While team president Mark Shapiro would reportedly not get into specifics, attendance is down year-over-year despite the team making several changes to the a la cart menu of winter-related activities. The Days’ 2012 season wrapped up on Sunday evening with the first ever “Frozen Faceoff,” an outdoor contest between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines’ men’s hockey teams. The Wolverines won the game with a final score of 4-1. Paid attendance was said to eclipse 25,000 fans.

It’s shocking more people don’t go, for the measly sum of $28 you can ride down a hill on an inner tube. It’s not like you can get that experience anywhere else cheaper.
Lower your prices and maybe more people will go.
thats funny because i said that to someone the other day and they looked at me like i was crazy
Oh great there goes the free agent 1B now!
On top of the cost – the hill is 30 ft high right? People pay for thrills (Cedar Point). Bigger hills at no cost are way more funner than “safe” fun.
If you think it’s just riding an inner tube down a hill, then chances are you haven’t gone. The entire atmosphere is really awesome, and kids absolutely love it. As the article states, the unseasonable winter really puts a damper on things.
Also, I wonder whether the game was included in whether or not Snow Days broke even. Absolutely loved having Snow Days around again, and being able to go to a pretty unique event like the hockey game. Unlike the team stationed on the lake, there was use for and excitement in the stadium in January.

I have been. It’s riding down a hill in a tube or skating around said hill. Maybe it’s because I’m not a kid anymore but I don’t see the atmosphere of it…you pay for your overpriced ticket and stand in line or spend your time dodging people on the ice.
If they’re going to justify the ticket prices they should have a lot more going on around the stadium to occupy you, there is plenty of real estate for more activities, games, etc. I also went to the game last night, it was alright, it was more about the uniqueness of the situation than the game itself. The rink was at a really funky position unless you were sitting right on the first base line. I spent most of the time watching the game on the big screen.
Went both this year and last, never had to “dodge” people on the ice, and didn’t wait at all to sled this year, and about 5 minutes to wait last year on one of the busiest days. And what was wrong with the position of the rink? It was in the best spot to get as many people as close to the ice as they could. I have no idea where your detest for this event comes from. It costs a bit too much for your taste? Fine, just ignore it, I don’t see why you need to dog it (and exaggerate at that).
Yikes, ok there Mr. Dolan calm yourself. I didn’t mean to offend, simply explaining why I didn’t think it was worth the money/hype. Also, feel free to not exaggerate my comments and also to ignore them 😉
Who is exaggerating here? I simply explained why I liked the event, and when I note fallacies in your arguments, will point them out.
You is exaggerating here. You have your opinion, I have mine. It doesn’t make mine any less true. As much as you continue to try to disregard my opinion, you can’t 😉
