It occurs to me that so much ink is spilled speculating over whether one’s team’s players will make the team, yet nobody cares about the game whatsoever.

it matters for players because of contract bonuses.   it matters to the media for reflection after a career.   it matters to fans because it’s nice to see your players play.

and i would argue that the NBA allstar game is the one that actually works as an exhibition.  because you at least get to see a bunch of crazy and fun basketball moves you would ordinarily not get to see in a real game.

it’s harder to do that in other sports where the allstar games closer reflect the actual games in how they are played.

I missed Andrew Bynum taking a 3pt shot.  I imagine he banked it so hard off the glass that it didn’t even touch rim.

I missed Lebron taking a 3pt shot.  Apparently trying for a game winner in an exhibition game is too much pressure.  I try hard not to be a hater but c’mon
