Following their loss to the Michigan State Spartans, the Ohio State Buckeyes fall to sixth-overall in the most recent release of the NCAA men’s basketball AssociatedPress’ Top 25 Poll.
Entering the week ranked third overall, the Scarlet and Grey barely topped the Purdue Boilermakers before having their 39-game home winning streak snapped by the Spartans — this was the second-longest such streak in the nation.
In said loss, Buckeyes center Sullinger had 17 points and 16 rebounds, but shot just 5-of-15 from the field and committed a career-high 10 turnovers. The game was marred by on-court complaining and arguing with the officiating crew after what many Buckeyes players deemed non-calls on the team’s second-year big man.
Ohio State is ranked behind Kentucky, Syracuse, Missouri, Kansas and Duke.
The Buckeyes (21-4) are now tied with Michigan State for first place in the Big Ten. It is assumed that the Buckeyes and Spartans will play for the Big Ten title when the two teams meet in East Lansing on March 4.
